It will take some work for most NTs to get under 40 players. The new rule almost works like "fixing" the NT rosters at the start of the WC.

I think you are being too hard on yourself. :) Their midfield positioning was very good - made it tough to get Smuckers and Greer involved. But a number of USA players looked flat and lost 1 vs. 1s they could just as well have won.

Only Lietuva and Mexico are smaller, and several larger countries didn't make it, so in that regard it was an accomplishment just to make it there. We should still be in excellent shape for the next World Cup. A large portion of our squad are between 25 and 27, so they won't improve a lot, but we have a core group of players who are 23-24 and could be difference makers if they are kept in training. They include guys like Valentine, Smuckers, Galloway, Clinton, Madsen and Cox.

We're in serious need of a monster winger to charge our attack, and Smuckers is well on his way to becoming just that. Madsen should be triple divine by next season, but it doesn't appear we'll have any other strikers getting there any time soon. We do have a handful of double divine defenders, but they all lack the secondary skills in PM and passing to really start up our counterattacks on a consistent basis. We're set at keeper with Bogan when he's in form, and Terris should be his equal in a couple of season's time.

when WC ends, were in because of making it to the knockout stages. at least thats how it went back in the day
