Subject: Team USA vs. Brazil

We begin World Cup qualification this morning, facing off against the toughest opponent of our group. Brazil is ranked #10, and made it to the first round of the knockout stage of the last WC.

I've thrown a new, untested formation out there as we don't really have anything to lose in this one. Check in at 17:59 to see if it worked!

most of the game i think USA dominated. only at the end Brazil had some legitimate opportunities to score...

That was my thought too. Really thought we played well enough to get the win. But they get a penalty shot the first time their forward gets into the box, while Patterson is tackled several times in the box with no calls. I may be biased but it seems like we never get the good end of the luck stick.

If you've been paying attention you'll have noticed I've been trying to find a 4 defender formation that will work against a wing offense. This one did fairly well, and will get some further use with some adjustments.

i like your tactics.

the four defenders did a really good job (if we forget about the last minutes of the game).

i like the way the mids moved. it seemed they were everywhere both on the offensive and defensive end.

also the passes to the striker were very nice. they went precisely between the five defenders and quite a few times reached or almost reached the striker. many times i had he impression that we were just about to score...

what are the parameters of the striker?

it seems like he was the weakest link
