Wearing NYFD/NYPD patches in commemoration of those horrific events 8 years ago, the U.S. team took the field against the young Jamaicans. The outclassed Jamaicans committed nearly a dozen fouls in the game, clearly breaking up the rhythm of play. Even so, the Americans sorely underperformed, scoring only 4 goals on 32 shots against the islanders. The Americans face a much tougher squad this week, playing the 30th ranked Österreich squad. The European squad lost 3-0 to the Magyarország U21, ranked 13th, two weeks ago. They then beat the 80th ranked Nigerians 7-0. It will take tough defense and a tenacious offense for the Americans to prevail.

We received much better ratings tonight. Equal to that of our opponent.

I think we played the better match, we out shot them 10-7 and for the most part controlled the game. When we weren't a man down we had the better team, had a few shots just miss at the end of the game, a couple got me to jump out of my chair.

So close yet so far.

A couple of those were awesome chances that I thought were going in. A draw against them, especially after being a man down for much of the match, is a very good result for us. Nice work!

so top two teams advance I assume? barring that Jamaica lolwrecks Austria and we lolgetwrecked by Nigeria we are in?

We may not finish first in our group, but with Nigeria next on the dock we could end up the top 2nd place team(on GD) and a bid to the next round.
