Subject: [NT] Mr-Llama

2010-07-21 23:28:01
I thought that was Dagwood who had asked that question before so that's the Edit in my first post there where I felt my change in tactics helped me overcome certain situations.

Other than that being in C league I haven't ever really had matches where I've been the Underdog unless it's by some ridiculous amount. I don't count my friendy matches because I usually just throw players in there to get training and don't work too hard on making a tactic that can win my friendly... (though if I'm the USA NT coach I would focus on friendlies because there isn't league play)

And also I feel In my cup game vs Novi Sad you can see how I was the Underdog but used my tactics

now if you go look, you'll be like "ummm Llama, you lost that game 2-0"

Yes that is correct, but if you watch the game you will see exactly what happened. I was the underdog for the 2nd cup game after winning my first home game and knew I had a tough game ahead of me. So I spent probably a good day or so working on a tactic for this game. he had some chances, I had a few really good chances (1 on 1 and such) and nothing went down. The game went into overtime and it wasn't until my players stamina just completely ran out that I conceded a goal. Then another goal for the same reason really.

well i wish I was able to watch your matches to critique your tactics but I can't so I'll leave that to someone else.

also its a very different story when you have defenders with excellent defender/pace to divine defender/pace. How can you say you are capable of handling the NT when you don't even have players half as strong as the NT players?
2010-07-22 00:01:05
Ok llama I will bite, you have never been above B level, and you fell to C last year. Why is that? Are you not good at player development? Poor tactics? I am not being sarcastic here, I just don't see how you think you are qualified other than playing a few seasons now and being enthusiastic.

Also, you do not have plus, how would you even be able to scout?

As for using games you lost as an example, I don't get it, results are all that matter. Give me valid reasons, at this point you don't have a single ounce of credibility on the club level, so you need to sell me as to why you should even be considered over those that have won games at higher levels than B and C league, and you haven't yet.
2010-07-22 00:02:19
ok I watched half of the cup match you speak of

2 quick things came to mind

1) novi played a 5-5-0 formation, hard to score, strikers want to pass

2) Novi's best player on the pitch was injured in the 7th minute (1 of the strikers with mid orders)

with that said I would say the results were expected

@vondocha

Yes I agree it is different to have excellent defenders vs divine defenders, however I don't think this will have a negative effect at ALL. I think if anything this will only be better considering I can put players in positions that none of my players are ever able to pull off.

With better players I will be able to spread my game, allowing my tactics to include wingers and other positions that require too much pace or passing or whatever for my guys.

My head is full of ideas for tactics but I have to limit myself due to my team.

@fla21667

Very true I have never been above B level and I believe it was you who also brought that point up last season when I was in C league and I promised you I would bump up to B league and eventually A league to win your vote. Well I bumped to B league and now I shall begin my climb to A league.
I started off in B league in sokker and decided I wasn't really ready for that. So I dropped to C league to get a better base under me and get my head around the game.

The game I lost I used as an example because it kinda goes to Vondocha's point where my players just don't have the skills, in this case it was that I just didn't have the stamina to hold on any longer. Dag brings up the point that he played a 5-5-0 but the fact that he did bunker in like that and I still had some decent chances I think brings some credibiility. I put my players in the positions to score, the fact that they weren't skilled enough to score I can't really do much about. What more do you want than a 1 on 1 with the keeper?

Lastly, if I am elected NT coach I will buy plus so that I can go scout for players

but I will also use the NT database and keep that updated so I can see the majority of the people to choose from.

@Dagwood

kinda explained it up there in the post to fla, but I'll just reiterate it again I feel I put my players in the position to end the game and they just weren't skilled enough to do so. Give me better players and they put those chances away (hopefully)

Edit: I'm going to go golfing but I will return in a few hours

Actually no, it is pure luck since your tactic was not set for a wall of players....

Get to A and we will discuss, you are not ready.
2010-07-22 02:05:06
I actually spent a lot of time looking into his setup and creating a tactic.

I decided man to man he had better players but if I tried to keep everything slightly to one side and push in I might be able to break him

and I did

so I was actually quite happy with that tactic
2010-07-22 09:48:35
just realised I posted this in dagwoods thread by accident so I will copy i here......

as far as I can tell Llama is the only US person enthusiastic about doing the job. If anyone else stands now it's basically because they dont want him doing it and I don't think this is a good reason. The guy has been religiously watching the NT games and discussing the matches with phil and dagwood all season. As far as I'm concerned he's worth a season having a go at the job. If he's shit (and he may well be shit), then we vote in someone else next year when maybe someone else will actually want the job........
2010-07-22 09:54:08
its not that i dont want him doing it, its just that i believe someone more experienced should handle the US NT.
2010-07-22 10:14:25
like who? Nobody else wants to do it. At least it should be an american this time

2010-07-22 10:16:19
plus, I think he will most likely turn out to be shit (no offence Llama, but as people point out, you're not very experienced). However, as the most enthusiastic person I think he could be given a go for a season as we await a more experienced user with the time / skills to take on the job more long term.
2010-07-22 10:26:13
well i'm trying to get dagwood to run and if he doesn't i'll run against the llama. maybe i'll get some votes from the old timers....:p
2010-07-22 18:30:52
Should i change your Thread title to U21??
2010-07-22 18:47:18
Is it enthusiasm or youthful cockiness??

I can go out and say I will win the Major League this season. I have no basis for saying this other than I want to win. I have consistently finished in the top 3 of my A league for many season, so why not at this level?

In reality I am not a top 4 team, and I am just hoping of being a top 7 squad to avoid the auto-relegation. But I can say anything to you all.

It is simply a waste to give Llama the job at this time, he does not have a winning tradition yet, and frankly I don't think he can make tactics to handle the skill of the players he would have at his disposal on the NT. I am not saying in time he could get there, but he needs to get out of B level before he should even be considered.

He has been playing SK for over 3 calendar years and 15 SK seasons, not only has he not advanced to A level in that time, he was relegated back to C for 2 seasons recently, has been relegated before and has never finished above 5th in B league (meaning never safe from a qualifier). He has also never advanced past round 3 of the cup, which essentially means he has only beaten bots in the cup (or maybe a new manager).

I am not bashing on him, but rather his record gives me no confidence he can handle the job. One has to walk before he can run. He may have paid dues as far as time goes, but he has not reached the level necessary to be given such an important role.

Well then here is my final rant:

@GazParkinson - This is exactly what I'm using for part of my campaign. If I do well go ahead and vote me again, if I do shitty then vote someone else in next year and hopefully they'll actually want to take the job. Looking at Phil's lack of enthusiasm for the team has just been really disappointing for his 2nd time with the team. I'm not sure if he just lost interest or if he was sick because I was the only person actively participating and making comments about the games but I really wish he would be more active in the forums and at least finish up his season with our team.

@Vondocha -

"well i'm trying to get dagwood to run and if he doesn't i'll run against the llama. maybe i'll get some votes from the old timers....:p"

This is probably the most insulting thing I have read this whole election. It also is exactly the bs that I'm talking about and if Dag wasn't switching and you actually did this and stole the position from me with that attitude I would probably quit sokker. No real enthusiasm or drive to try and be coach of the NT but rather just doing it to try and steal votes and the position from me.

@fla21667 -

It is enthusiasm, but of course there has to be some cockiness. If you don't think you're going to win and believe in yourself then you simply won't. You know what fla if you wanna run for U21 and be reasonable and look at some games saying "Okay I'll just take a loss here because it won't hurt our ranking very much" then go ahead and do that. People will vote for you because you are "experienced" but with that attitude you will never get my vote. I want someone who is optimistic not someone who settles for less than the best.

(Oh and btw I'm pretty sure I've only been here 11 seasons and for a majority of those I had been playing hattrick (since I started that game before sokker and was in a higher division) and didn't really get into sokker for a bit because I had been frustrated with some things like I got errors whenever I tried to save tactics and it would erase all the work I put into making it. Eventually I made the switch though and now I don't play hattrick anymore.)

And finally
@Dagwood -

With you running for NT and fla running for U21 simply to prevent me from winning the position, it honestly doesn't matter what happens. So I'll go ahead and just stay here because I am quite sick of a lot of the users lack of belief, lack of PARTICIPATION (WHY AM I THE ONLY FREAKING PERSON WHO CARES DURING THE SEASON?) and lack of care to really take the team anywhere (except for you dag who is the only other person who puts as much time into the USA teams as I do).

I still stick by my opinion that U21 would be best for you and I really do believe that you still have yet to receive the praise you deserve for what you're doing for that team (and once those 19 and 20 yr olds grow up and you get us top 32 I think then it will come).

Best Regards,
Mr-Llama
