Subject: [U21] vs Moldova
Here I am dag :)
Start of match notes looking at tactics and such:
1. Crap they didn't stack their forwards but rather pushed them out wide to make 2 wingers, oh well hopefully we can cover that
2. Our forwards/midfielder stack up nicely on their defenders, that should be able to get us some chances
first few minutes: STOP PASSING THE BALL BACKWARDS USA
Their cross: Crap...he runs right between our two central defenders, that could be trouble
8' - Injury for Moldova - HAH EAT IT SUCKERS
Their two offensive midfielders must have hella good stamina cause that tactic of theirs makes them run like no other.
15' - WTF PUT THAT AWAY
17' their goal - crap...I knew that player would be trouble with how he runs vs our tactic
19'- WOOHOO!!!!
Quick note, I really like Devlin, good player. Also another quick note I think we should talk more defensive tactics/positioning.
28' - there's that cross that we aren't set to guard again...damn.
31' - Did we just get double tackled?
Singer needs some crossing work if he's going to keep going out to that right side...
38' - OMG YOU CAN HAVE THEM SETUP A WALL?!?!? SINCE WHEN!?
can we stop getting yellow cards?
59' - WTF MAKE A DAMN PENALTY KICK. THESE ARE THE FREEBIES WE NEED TO PUT AWAY!!!
70' No way...
85' - OMG OMG OMG OMG SO WE MAKE THAT AND NOT A PK?!?!?
2-2 final, overall I'd like to say we were a tad lucky but we also didn't put away the chances we should have so it was a very strange game. We could've won it with a slightly better defensive tactic I think but oh well not a bad start :)
Ps. for being in 49. place Moldova sure is pretty dang good...their stats are pretty high up there with some top 32 teams easy...

also FWIW, England/Switzerland tied as well.
Luxembourg won over Vietnam by default. A free 5 goal for a GD. =/

Also yea Wingers require so many good skills it's near impossible to play them in U21, and are team definitely does not have 2 players cut out to play wingers. Moldova on the other hand had some decent wingers, though I think they might have lacked a tad of pace, we didn't cover enough
Just a quick note to everybody to let them know how fla and I worked
in previous matches Moldova was more known for double stacking two forwards up front, so our defensive tactic was more set around those forwards and less wingers. The moldova coach made a good call to play the midfield as so.
Fla liked the idea of spreading out the midfield, I told him I liked it closer together personally, you decide which you think would have worked better.
Their striker vs our defense in the box was just sadly, perfect for them. I always like to mix the players up in the box rather than draw them back straight like fla did but I guess if he assumed 2 forwards he just played for that.
The strikers were also sadly either out of reach or unsuccessful for a lot of the counterattack. To be fair, Moldova is a very defensive team with their line so fla made a good choice in putting players in those open spaces between the defense and midfield, unfortunately there was no midfield of our own to push up and try through balls or anything. I feel like we need to rather than have 3 forwards, put 2 forwards and one offensive midfielder to cover that space. I'm not quite sure who would fill the position but we need someone set to MID there so they will think about passing through rather than always trying to take on that line
I think our tactics in their final 3rd were very good though. I liked how we positioned our players in the box and how we were setup to get a shot out of our chances up there. Unfortunately we just needed more of them
6 shots to 7
2-2
pretty fair game

Can we get your opinion on the play of Banda?
Seems we agree on defensive positioning.
everything from the space between the defenders and the midfielders, the defenders playing to deep, the wide defenders not getting wide enough.
Which all lead to things like you CD not make a SINGLE tackle.
You know why Defenders have the most defending? Because they make the MOST tackles.....
When Fla reads this on Monday I hope he has the right attitude, and I equally hope the USA users have the right attitude. Lets all agree its a bad tactic and move forward and help Fla next week.

Wasn't a bad tactic overall in my mind, just needed to tweak a few minor things
Change our defenders up in the box a little, push the wide defenders out 1 notch, push our midfield together a notch, push 1 midfielder up into the space or drop 1 attacker off and make him an OFF CM
Nothing Drastically terrible, just a lot of minor tweaks needed to be changed.
As for the CD not having a single tackle, I think a lot of that was based on their team only playing 1 striker who rarely ever had control unless he was heading the ball. I'd say worry less about that and more about where he was in position when those header balls came in/worry about the wingers getting the time to send those balls in

Let me quick give my opinion of Banda, he was average as a central midfielder because his defense is too low. He had a couple good passes and one poor give away. His stats say he is an attacking mid/winger trainee and that is what he is.
Calm down, I like Banda, just not where he played.
We agreed to this point, lets not argue over a definition.
Agreed. He needs to be more involved in the attack.
Good, so lets make sure Fla/Llama don't play him there again.
Singer needs some crossing work if he's going to keep going out to that right side...
Singer is NOT going to get passing training....

hey Dag, maybe it IS a good idea to designate a Free Kick taker.... ;) lol
As I don't know Tarley's skills, is he a CM? Or can he be converted to wing?
Not now or even ever (tall = poor acceleration with the ball, even with his pace skill)

That was my little stab at fla to say "don't put Singer in a position to pass the ball across like that" lol
Also Fla and I never discussed players before the game, that was more his thing. I'm not exactly sure of the stats but if Fla gives me those it would be very helpful in designing tactics that work to fit the players rather than cramming players into a tactic and hoping it works
