I'm the scout for MIDS for the USA NT

Please contact me if you have a player who would be appropriate for consideration for the national team. (don't post them here, use SK-mail plz)

Before sending them to me, please look at the minimum requirements for the national team.

Other scouts (or fro, obviously) feel free to post in this thread about what position you're looking for.

Btw, here are the current NT reqts. Just because a player meets these doesn't mean he's gonna be added on the NT, these are just the minimums.

Please check on the nt home page if this thread gets old, as this thread won't be updated as often as the NT reqts on that page would be...

USA NT Requirements

ALL OUTFIELDERS MUST HAVE GOOD PACE AND STAMINA

GK
Required: Brilliant GK skill, good pace, and weak passing
Exceptions: Incredible GK with excellent pace

DEF
Required: Formidable defending and at least solid in three secondaries or good in four other skills
Preferred: Outstanding+ defending, very good+ pace, good+ technique, and adequate+ passing
Exceptions: Players w/ excellent defending and formidable+ pace; players w/ additional levels of pace (above excellent) may be lower in other skill requirements

*Simply high defending levels will not get your player added to the team

MID
Required: Very good PM, good passing, solid technique, average defending
Preferred: Very good+ PM and passing, solid+ technique, very good+ pace, solid+ DEF
Exceptions: Additional levels of pace, technique, and passing (above very good) can be lower in other requirements

*Scoring could be a deciding factor if positions become competitive

ATT
Required: Excellent scoring, very good pace, solid technique
Preferred: Formidable+ scoring, excellent+ pace, very good+ technique, average+ passing
Exceptions: Additional levels of technique (over outstanding) can replace twice the requirement of other skills

I've already gone through all the keepers in the Youth Pull Threads and found nothing of great interest, but documented what I've found so far.

Hey guac, on midfielders....if they had superior pace or technique would it be enough to overcome pretty much 0 defense? I have a player that I can't decide on if he will be a midder or a foward. He will be quite good in a few seasons regardless of what position he ends up in.

mids HAVE to have defense, unless youre talkin something like magical pace
2006-08-18 11:07:49
i thought if you play them as wingers the def. doesn't figure as much into it?

Defense and tech and pace are always important. It becomes more apparent in the strong leagues because the level of competition is higher.

That's gonna depend on your coach. If we're talking 0 defense that's a bit harsh. I agree with someone a few posts above this that i don't really personally care as much about def on a winger if he's got great speed and passing and playmaking versus an inner (or of course defensive) mid.

It also depends on the formation - if we're playing a better team the wingers will be used more defensively and may come up against the opponent's wingers or central mid fairly frequently, versus if we're pwning the ball and the wingers will be facing defenders who will be booting it away much faster. Of course, that being said, i still like some def even on forwards, 0-2 def is rough. At the end of the day, the dude is gonna have to be lightning fast with excellent+ passing to overcome that type of deficiency probably.

Again tho, it will be up to fro.

I know that the NT might be a different animal, but I've got a winger who has good defense and it's really useful. He steals the ball away pretty much every time (as opposed to the other winger, who is a big fan of the Matador defense).

Having a player like that can keep you from getting exposed on that side. Particlulary since he can keep your wingback from having to come out and make defensive plays on the wing all the time.

Again, to me it depends how and where you're playing the winger.

In some games, my wingers don't challenge opponents who have the ball more than 3 times (or not at all) with a 0-5% def contribution. In others they've closer to 10-15% def contribution.

I also play 2 defensive mids so my wingbacks would never be affected by a winger's defensive ability. We have very different formations.
