mr_g is leaving threads on this on the forums he follows open in case users want to discuss things in their small community instead of on the large Sokker International forum.

To be consistent, i reopened this.

If you wanna chat with other followers of Sokker USA and don't really care to have it read by thousands, feel free to post here. Obviously greg won't be reading this, although he certainly is reading Sokker International.

We've be raised not to care about the rest of the world. It's the American way!

I love all the changes but positioning should be a function of tactics. It's the skill of the human user.

I was just telling Guac this exact sentimentover AIM this morning.

I think the positioning idea is unneccessary and if actively implemented will detract from the manager side skill/ability.

Moreover, if they want to add experience to the game with relative ease, have experience correlate into form directly.

So an experienced player will average out to have better form then an inexperienced one.

Simple. They'd just have to add a counter for friendly matches also.

All of the changes sound great.

As far as positioning goes I haven't seen anything posted saying exacly what it means or what affect it will have, so making judgements on it now is premature. It could be a great addition, it could be a terrible one, or anywhere in the middle.

What i'd like to see with positioning is if players with high skill in that talent actually get a better position than the tactic.

At the end of the day even the best tactic can have improvements if players edge around a bit to move away from the opposition. Ie strikers moving slightly to the left or right (mebbe 1/2 of a square on the tactic editor) to get inbetween defenders. Or defenders 1/2 square to left or right to get closer to the forwards...

I posted the same type of thoughts in the International forum......

"Positioning should work in the following manner....

Defenders with high positioning skill will mark players even when they are away from the ball, rather than just standing in their tactical spot. They will also be more adept at cutting off through passes.

Defenders with poor skill will play like they do now, in a spot rather than playing a man. They will also be slightly away from where they should be according to your tactic.

Mids with high positioning should look to dribble into space to set up their pass, rather than heading straight towards the goal. Away from the ball they will move into space in order to be open for a pass, without leaving the general area of their spot in the tactic. On defense they will also mark players when away from the ball if someone's close to their assigned tactical spot.

Mids with poor positioning skill won't do those things and will play right where you've told them, with occasional lapses where they are caught slightly away from their assigned spot.

Strikers with high positioning skill will actually work into an open area to set up an incoming pass, rather than standing in their assigned spot.

Strikers with poor positioning would stand still, in their assigned spot, while sometimes getting 'lost' and being slightly away from their spot.

Positioning should either be an 'experience' skill in that it starts low and increases based upon the players underlying talent level, or a trianable skill that is trained like pace, with everyone who plays a match that week being trained.

To begin with, all existing players should recieve their positioning skill based on either the number of matches they've played, or an overall average of their existing skills.

My opinions at least, until someone puts forth another opinion that changes them."

Is it weird to quote yourself?

i like those thoughts.

May be a bit too much AI for the match engine tho. There's only so many comparisons the engine can make every moment - moving players to the positions and then modifying these positions based on others' movements may be too complex/cumbersome.

Effects of positioning can be seen in recent national team friendlies. It is easy to spot in our last match vs hong kong; our defensive line looks very scattered and unorganized, and our forwards dont readjust themselves after finding themselves offsides too well.

Im not sure I like the idea of positioning.. the unique thing about sokker is the managers ability to set tactical formations, its the only interactive ability we have in matches. Having a new skill that hinders this ability takes away from one of the unique aspects sokker has given us.

Tactics, imo, is one of the main skills that makes one manager better than another.

Even if an offsetting "better positioning than the tactic" is implemented, it just makes managers with bad tactical skills get lucky with positioning, rather than winning a match due to scouting and real effort/skill.

Keep in mind plz that the positioning used for those games was based on the lowest possible level. I think the devs are using it to baseline.

I would hope that no good players will have that level of positioning when it's implemented.

Whatever you've read, there's been NO definitive word from greg or anyone who knows that positioning would be a talent that is set to 0 for everone when the new ME is released. It's also possibly not going to be trained like the other skills.

Greg has stated clearly that he would provide no definitive information on how training would work at this point, but hinted that it wouldn't be the same as the other skills.

So plz don't jump to conclusions based on the current way your NT players are reacting.

I realize this, but the basic reasoning behind my disliking the concept of the feature still holds true.
