I realize this, but the basic reasoning behind my disliking the concept of the feature still holds true.

look at barndog's post. does an implementation like that change your thinking?

or one in which positioning is affected by experience? ie a more experienced player really SHOULD be able to take orders from the manager more effectively.

I also want positioning to remain based on tactics, but their's one improvement that I hope this skill will bring.

- The player closer to the ball will chase the ball, but I've had two players chase the ball before. When it's a midfielder and a striker, this creates one less passing option in the box. I would rather that the striker hold his position and let the midfielder fight for the ball.

If positioning can improve that, that would be great. But this kind of decision making might be too difficult to simulate.

as does my opinion - I share with you fromaster.

The entire concept of positioning seems flawed and unneccessary.

Every other change sounds excellent, though.

My guess on positioning: right now the players try to reach the position we decided when the ball is in that particular position: for example a forward will be in a static position, then move based on the passage. Positioning could make the players think on what to do before the player with the ball try to pass or shoot, or dribble etc, etc: for example a forward will try to reach the position we want him to be, then try to move forward anticipating a long passage, or a defender could try to be in front of an attacker instead of waiting to tackle him.
I'm speculating here and those are my 2 cents!! (note: i don't read international or any other forum than this one!!)

it just takes away from the one thing we CAN control in the game. I mean, don't get me wrong, my starters average around 65-70 official matches so I would be well off, but I pride myself in putting them in the right spots most of the time in against everyone anyways =)

The new skill would just let people with less tactical experience get away with being not as skilled in the only interactive aspect we managers have

This is what I wrote earlier today...before that international forum got way out of control. Keeping it simple may be the best option. I agree with "fromastaflex". Clear and to the point!

Since positioning is a new concept my hope is that it will not interfere with tactics or replace the importance of tactics.

As my first season comes to a close and a promotion to B league with a win on the horizon, my tactics are a strategic advantage. From my point of view "positioning" may take away, from many, the advantage they have with their tactics, they're like a competitive advantage when developed effectively!!

"The American Way!" :)

Well, we had our first friendly with the new engine.

I don't like the positioning thing AT ALL.

It completely overrode my tactical placement on several occasions....especially on defense which, being I was in a surprisingly close game, drove me bananas.

I liked seeing my striker pass the ball from a sharp angle near the goal...I liked seeing more headers, but this positioning attribute has got to go.

Did they tweak anything with friendly attendance?

Spectators: 6522

The biggest crowd I ever had for a friendly was 4061 way back in July.

no idea...I was on the road today.

My opponent seemed to draw a typical amount of 1270 for the firendly. We're just C teams.

edit: I'm having fun on the intenational match engine thread. Somehow I've gotten it sidetracked - not intentionally mind you. I just mentioned what I thought of the training system in Sokker in context of not wanting to have to start training yet another category (positioning).
