Subject: positioning question

2006-12-08 02:56:19
my team seems to play much better in a 4-4-2 type line-up, but I train mids so I have been using a 3-5-2 for training. What if i took one of my mid trainees who is solid in defending, play him in a defending position, but set as mid so he gets his playmaking training? Any thoughts or anyone ever try this?

If you do that, play him as a wing back. Mids pause and think sometimes and you don't want that in central defense.

Plus he will not be wasting balls into the stands and will help relounch your attack as a wing back. Put him on the same side as your best forward.

ok, great advice, i'm gonna try it

I play with my MID as a central defender in a 4-4-2 and don't really see this. Could be my level of competition.

Never thought of it the way you said to try and I will definitely try him as a WB in the future.

both goals you allowed to Birmingham City, the opposing attacker went thru your CD playing as a mid.

Yes, but I attribute that to his lack of high level defending and low technique vs some pretty good forwards that Birmingham throws out there.

But indecision on the ball when in control, I haven't seen.

And I will definitely look to change up tactics and try Lakay's way.

I set my wing back (curtis owens) to max out my training with my 442, works like a charm. hes my super talented defensive-mid-to-be, average to solid tech (3 pops) in 5 weeks! (although i forgot to switch the positioning around this week when i put him in the middle haha) doesnt matter though due to pace training

he hangs onto the ball for too long sometimes, but its the risk i take for that last training spot

I'm going to be doing the same thing with Rakes Bakes at some point, but even more aggressively - I think I'll be playing 3 on the back line (including Rakes), with a 3-4-3 formation. I'll only have 2 real defenders at that point, but since one of them is spectacular and the other really really good, I think it might work out.

Of course, Rakes has formidable defending and incredible pace, so he isn't a complete waste back there as the 3rd defender (even with a midfielder order).

Warning: Fro and his super wingers has made a serious challenge against 3 defenders in the back. His wingers stretches the defense and unleash goal mouth crosses that are easily converted.

Lucky for us, so far he's the only team that can pull this off. I'm studying deeply this concept but I only have one winger that can pull a good cross.

What would happen if you took one of the PM's toward the back and dropped them into defensive coverage when the ball got towards the goal, sort of as an extra CD? You'd need two defensive PM's for that to work (one on the back line, one more forward), but in concept it should work if they were both fast and had good stamina.

Did that, it helps but not enough.

PM for strikers, he also made it a requirement for the NT strikers:

All players, def, mid, Att and maybe even keepers react quicker towards the ball when they have PM. His forwards have high PM and reacts to the crosses quicker.

Any clue as to fro's wingers' skill levels?

I assume VERY high pace, passing, and pm?
2006-12-11 19:23:17
He won't share that info, even for the sake of the USA.
2006-12-11 22:49:05
I think VERY high Tech would be included

But why do they consistently make nice crosses? I've seen some expensive mids make bad crosses or bad decisions on the wings. What makes his wingers special?
