Subject: Promoting Sokker...

2007-01-18 01:59:40
But don't you want certain players in certain positions, depending on what you're training, to actually be of some value for your wednesday matches?
2007-01-18 02:04:40
I think he is talking about non trainee positions.
2007-01-18 02:05:53
Right now, I'm training technique, so the players playing MID in friendlies are 5 of my 6 striker trainees. The players playing MID in my league matches are guys that would benefit from technique training, plus my defensive striker trainee, but not really trainees.
2007-01-18 02:08:08
So why not set "MID" to all your players except 1 striker... or is there a cap on how many players can be designated "MID" or trained at "MID" ?
2007-01-18 02:09:05
Like HT, you can only train 5 MIDs per match, 5 DEFs, and 3 ATT.

The match viewer is cool. I just watched my team play its first game, and I think I did OK for a first game...3-3. The viewer has it all over HT, no doubt. We'll see how the training and tactics go.

Anyone who wants a mentor, contact me.

:) Problem is that I don't have enough time for both, if I want to play them at least semi-decently (and here I am talking about semi-decent effort, not results:).

well if sokker doesn't give you enough to do, you can always order plus and get access to any match (that isn't incredibly old, of course).

It's pretty cool watching the top polish teams play.

IMO, there is NO comparison b/n "what there is to do" in Sokker and HT. Sokker is what you make of it. You can get your team and play 2 games a week, and watch it grow (or not). OR you can
1) get a young team,
2) start a coherent training program,
3) make sure that you have a full complement of trainees,
4) sell off the untalented ones,
5) juggle your economics so you only have the right coaches,
6) all the while making sure that your tactics are competitive and designed to maximimize your team's strengths and minimize its weaknesses.

HT - get a good midfield and hope to get lucky...

Seriously - the C league in the USA is incredibly easy because there are so many bots. Give sokker a shot until you get to B. It is much more competitive at that point, and there are a number of very good b-league teams. Ask Islander1 about his experience - he thought his C league time was boring, but he doesn't think that any more.... :)

Yeah, frydog - let me preface this by saying that last season was my first full season in Sokker. I had 2 matches late the before when I first registered.

I was the #1 ranked team in ALL of C league last season. Not my league, all of them. I had a goal differential of 65-2 I think. I was so good at tactics, and the C league competition so weak that I played my backups half the season in league play (because my Hockey Arena league was more competitive). I was still winning 4 or 5-0.

So, I promoted to B league. I'm in B2. Now, week in and week out I'm facing teams that talent score wise, are equal or several points better then me.

Here is a list of the team skill ranks for my league, it's one of the better ones in B league.

Average individual marks:

36.0 Long Island Pronghorns
34.9 NJ Rangers
33.8 Panthers
30.8 New York Cosmos
30.0 Skull
29.0 Salisan F.C.
27.0 Green Mtn. Falcons
22.8 New York United

As you can see, there are 3 teams appreciably better then mine.

Anyway, it's been an uphill fight to win every week now. My strategies are the main thing helping me to the first place record I have in league (so far). I really never expected to be where I am now in the standings. I was expecting probably third place. I win games by 1, because I play teams that are just better but I get the most out of the talent I have.

It doesn't help that I'm ass broke too - but that'll change next season, I can finally get rid of my C league defense :)

Anyway, just reinforcing what Jon is saying. I'm pretty much at a point were even if I finish first in my division, which would be an amazing managerial accomplishment given my team's talent level presently, I'll have to throw the promotion to A match because I'd be guaranteed a big fat 2-12 record in A league.

You need a team score of like 37 minimum to survive up in A. I'm a little ways away from that :)

Oh, but there is, it's just that you are making an assumption about the reasons for playing and styles of playing this game and that assumption is not entirely correct (it could be a good generalization though).

I don't log in because I want to see my team improve. No, I log in 10 times a day because I want to kill a couple of minutes and, since I enjoy killing the time that way, I try to play the game correctly, which leads to my team improving over time.
That's why all the things you mentioned don't really mean much to me. I need a game that can occupy my mind for a couple of minutes 10 times a day and, at the moment, it doesn't look like Sokker could do that. (No, I don't want to play Tetris:)

My main problem with Sokker is that I am not enjoying the place. The website is terrible. It looks and feels like someone's 65yo aunt from some small village in Poland designed it while cooking a meal. True, training is structured much better than in HT and there is a cute match viewer, but that's as far as the positives go. Even that 2d-viewer, which is a great little thingy, goes against m playing the game, since I rarely have 20 minutes to spare and when I do I'd rather spend them on some other aspects of the game.

Disclaimer (to prevent possible flaming): I am not trying to say, let alone prove, that either Sokker or HT is good/bad, better/worse than the other or anything of that sort.

My comparison was b/n HT and SK. I don't think that the interface is any better in HT, and at least here you have the ability to change skins if you want. HT has that wonderful green, and not much else.

If you want to waste 10 minutes, then you should be playing a MUD somewhere. ANY soccer site isn't going to help there - there are only so many games each week. Play Hockeyarena if you want to get quicker action.

All of the above said, when you go through periods when you are doing a lot of buying or selling of players, you'll find there is no problem jumping on and off for 10 minutes (or more.)
