Subject: We should be able to negotiate trades so

2007-01-27 02:19:37
eh, we all know HT sucks, anyway :)

Then dont be a jackass ;)

"Yeah, negotiate a price that the buyer isn't subject to follow through on. There's that problem. If it was as simple as negotiating a price and having it enforced, it'd be no big deal."

You can place the player up for sale for a guaranteed price, it will just cost you to do so.

"Its not whining. Moreover if you aren't going to at least consider the merits of my opinion, then you know where you can go."

To school? To church? To the 7-11 to buy a microwave burrito?

"Its fiscal concern from a team in the league not two seasons (and by the way, still undefeated in league play, career). I've never had working capital form previous player-trainee or youth school sales - its simply not possible in this game. My first training cycle is just now nearing initial completion."

That sounds like a management problem. I haven't run into any cash flow problems, even when I was in the lower leagues. I haven't sold any high dollar trainees, either.

"So grow up. Don't worry, before too too long I might be in your league. That'll suck for you - just like it did in C31 last season, and B2 this season and next :)

Hmmm... well, I'm not too concerned. I think my tactics are pretty strong, and my trainees are badass.

I had some fiscal management problems in the first month, most definitely. I've been fighting an uphill battle since those initial mistakes, before I got a mentor.

This game isn't nearly as fiscally forgiving as the other sports sim I play, Hockey Arena.

As far as your tactics, they better be. Of course, as I said I have some time to go :)

I'm winning a B league (or at worst coming in second) with solid strikers and a C league defensive backline. Over the next 15 weeks I'll be able to start making improvements, though.

There really is too much time in between matches here.

I certainly don't think islander has a management problem.

He's just riding the fence on building his skilled players as quickly as possible, which costs a lot of $$ with trainer wages.

As he said, he's yet to lose a league match, which is probably a record in the USA, at least lately.

Heh, go play hockeyarena :)

Yeah, i agree with the sentiment, but honestly i think with more matches we'd lose too many "borderline interested" or just busy managers.

You are on the game a few hours a day, that's certainly not standard. :)

"He's just riding the fence on building his skilled players as quickly as possible, which costs a lot of $$ with trainer wages."

Well, that's likely a management problem in my book. At least, if your management strategy is to build some cash flow, which he indicated was a problem.

It was a first couple of weeks management problem, from a fiscal sense.

Cash flow won't be a problem a season from now. However, in making my team even remotely competitive with teams that have been around for MONTHS longer then mine, I've had to spent every dollar down to almost -250k to do it. MY team rating is 31, and I'm in a league where every team but two is at that level, or several points above it.

Setting a min bid and praying someone will actually follow through on it will be risky for me because I'm barely profiting each two week cycle now on expenses. It's my winning that's allowed me to gain fans as fast as possible in this game.

This is what happens when you start out new, yet want to train your first batch of trainees as quickly as possible.

I've also gotten zero love from the YS.

Hell, a good percentage of teams in B league, much less C league, have no trainee plan implemented at all.

I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm just jammed up initially here, for reasons mentioned.

I completely agree that, on the whole, my GM skills are still a work in progress. Then again, I've been here barely 6 months. Fortunately, my coaching skills have successfully compensated for the GM learning curve.

My first five trainees were original players. To say that you're in a uniquely bad spot because you were determined to develop talent seems... well, unlikely.
2007-01-27 21:00:10
You got a far better team to start with then I have, then.

I only have 2 trainees that were original players. The rest were old, and crap.

Honestly, some of the C league teams assigned now I've seen (friends of mine over from HA) are even worse then mine - although some are better too.

No, that's not the case. I simply chose to train players that are "older than trainable" by conventional wideom. Either way, I haven't had any problems with cash flow, and I'd likely be among the frontrunners for promotion to the ML this season if I hadn't switched to tech training.
2007-01-27 23:41:36
Oh, so in other words, you made a dumb decision (training players too old, resulting in slower training rates) and are now bitter and holding it against others who chose not to do so. Of course, even if I were to make the same mistake, we're talking about training 26 year olds and older. I had only three players in the classic trainable area. Two midfielders (Stephenson and Self) and a striker. So I sold off the striker for a bit of money, and managed to finance everything else.

I mean, I'm just calling it for what it is, now.

Keep being a jerk popping off at the yapper though :), it'll be more fun to beat you when we're finally in a league together with similar quality teams. It'll take time, as you've had a 9 month head start - but I've caught up in HA and in reasonable time I'll catch up here, too.
There's nothing that will stop that. I succeed at everything I apply myself to. This game will be no different.

Ask Guacamole. Heck, he was my mentor. Can't do better then that :)

I wouldn't say that it was a dumb decision. Ever read Moneyball? Billy Beane tries to run the A's (a small market team) by avoiding players that the market overvalues and emphasizing players the market undervalues.

Similiarly, I only had to purchase one trainee at the outset. My subsequent trainee purchases have tended to be players that the market undervalues, as I haven't noticed significant differences between my older trainees and younger ones in terms of times to pop, I don't pay a premium for 18 yo's, for instance. And you can't really argue with my team's performance.
2007-01-28 05:03:35
I forget. How many AL Pennants has Billy Beane won?

That's right, none.
2007-01-28 05:06:48
Performance as a function of payroll, he's definitely at the top. Go ahead and keep paying your premiums for overvalued players.
2007-01-28 06:00:44
I will, and ultimately I'll be winning titles, while you're content making excuses for third place.

I mean seriously, re: the A's: keep telling that to yourslef as you're beaten like a drum in the divisional series season in and out.

My snowball, meanwhile, just takes a little longer to get moving, but once it does...
