What should I do? My players are crap, is there a point to expanding the stadium, should I look towards trainers despite that my players are crap, should I pump into the youth program, what are the prices on the transfer market.

I don't really need to Rules :p, I'm acquainted with those, just answers to those points.
Everybody starts with crap players. Don't panic. The only way to make things better is through proper training as you will not have enough money at this point to buy lots of players. You want to train what ever position you have a lot of young talent in. So if you have a lot of young strikers, you might train striking or secondaries for those strikers. Take into account that age is not the only factor that matters in training. Players have hidden talent that you will have to discover through observation of how fast they level. Also make sure that your head coach is a fit for what you are training. If you are training striking, you want a head coach that is high in striking too. If not, you are wasting your time.
Expanding the stadium is a major mistake at this point. You only want to expand when you have surplus cash and you are selling out your current stadium consistently. Expanding is extremely expensive and it takes a lot of time to get that money back.
As for the youth program, I would say it is worth having. You will need a decent youth squad coach or else it too is a waste. Maybe one that is solid+ overall for starters. You can only gain 6 juniors per week. So never have more than 6 open slots available. Anymore and you are wasting money. Don't hang on to juniors that are not going to be worth anything. Most everybody has a certain minimum level that they want their juniors to come out as. Mine is Very Good. If I can tell that one of my juniors will come out below very good, I will usually reject them.
Sorry for rambling

Set up the best 11 starters. Keep subs. Sell the rest. Dont expand satadion. Its a waste wait a season. Get a trainer, about execent skill. And a youthcoach same thing. Set up your school to 6. Since thats the most atm that can enter the school. Transfers vary depending on the players skill (duh) and age.
