Subject: Mentors ?

Mentors? I just dug back far enough to find this thread....can i get one?
2007-05-13 16:37:29
me too?

I will mentor you both, but you appear to be coming from the same IP address. Be sure to inform the higher ups if there are two of you playing from the same computer.

Not a problem. We set that in place with their knowledge. I am griffin_slayer's dad. So, how does this work?

Usually, guacamole assigns you a mentor (hey, Mark!). Since ky has volunteered to mentor you both, you could go forward with him as your mentor, or you could ask guacamole for another mentor. I think it's a little easier for someone with plus to be your mentor, since they can watch your games, but it all depends.

ky's your mentor, so he'll follow up etc...

As far as the common ip, BE SURE TO:
1) email admins@sokker.org with your shared IP address (seems you did this since it's in your profile)

2) NEVER EVER EVER buy or bid on eachother's players. It's the easiest way to get both teams banned. Read the fair play rules.

Outside of that, have fun and welcome to sokker! :)

Anyone want to take over running the mentor program for the USA? Admin stuff kills me, and if i don't get to the email for a mentor request right away, it's gone from my inbox by the next day...

The team running the mentor program needs to be one of the top USA teams, plz, either competitive in an A-league (top 2-3 spots) or ML...

I wouldn't mind running the mentor program, but I'm in the lower half of my league (which shouldn't matter that much, if it's an administrative person you're looking for).

Bouncing this since i didn't move on it back in June... Opening it up again for volunteers (don't know if benmor still wants it or if anyone else would want to do it)

Basically I'm looking for someone to take a more active role in getting new users acclimated to Sokker. I wasn't being proactive with the new users post to contact them. Normally when i accept players i post them, but i often do it quickly and so wasn't reaching out to them...

I'd suggest that the role of the person running the mentor program would be:

1) Contacting the new user and welcoming them
2) Offering them a mentor and if they want one, assigning them (which requires remembering or maintaining a list of who
3) Maintaining the current list of mentors and the various resources (Mentors USA forum)

In addition, I'd love this person to help spearhead initiatives to help improve USA involvement in sokker... Get up our numbers. #1 and 2 would help some by hopefully decreasing burn, but we just don't have enough people registering in the first place.

Any volunteers? Sorry to put an arbitrary rule on this, but i think the position should require attainment of at least A-league (proven success and knowledge), love of Sokker, and the time to devote to this.

Oh, and btw, if we grow to 500 users I'll add an American Mod here, and if this person does a good job here I'm sure they'd be the first I'd think of when choosing one... *WINK*

Guac. Since I finally moved up to A-League I will be happy to help out anyone new to the game. I have a lot of time on my hand this days,
Please refer me or a new user to me if needed,
Thanks

Roy

You'll be a mentor then (weren't you already?). if you're not already, plz open up a new thread on the Mentors USA forum about yourself.

That last post by me was asking for someone to take over the program itself, not just be a mentor :)
2007-10-13 02:13:30
I'd be willing to do it, guac.
2007-10-13 05:01:45
Well I'd be willing to when I get to A league

stupid restrictions

you always say A league so I can't help :P

what i suggest is that anyone who's interested post here (benmor already did, and one other sk-mailed me who needs to post here too), then i'll ask people to sk-mail me feedback and base3d on that we'll choose.

Don't want forum-based voting, if you guys agree, since i don't want any hard feelings. I won't make the decision - i'll base it on the input i get via sk-mail.
