I'll promote then, when I'm convinced I won't get my ass completely handed to me.

My opinion - it is MUCH better to promote and succeed, rather than go a season earlier and get flogged.

for one, its not fair to other teams and users, second, losses in supporters is prolly equaled by gains in sponsor money
third, for crying out loud, reaching higher levels is the name of the game!

and no..reaching higher levels isn't necessarily the name of the game. Growing a successful franchise is the name of the game.

That gain in sponsor money is only for a season tho, since you'll auto-demote if you promote way too early, and your sponsor $$ will fall back down. So either way you're gonna have another season in B.
And, @barndog, bring it baby, hope to see you autopromote back and spank lakay and company. I'm still sore at how much hating he had for my players :)

So, what do you want to have? 2 division titles in B, a team that can hang with A caliber existing teams...and promote with near maximum fans...
or promote after one season with 900 fans, an inferior team across the board, have to fight for your life to avoid relegation, and end the season with less fans then you had to begin with - which wasn't exactly near the 1200 maximum to begin with.
A league teams have progressed too far in the 3-4 seasons since 'others' have done it. I could possibly do it myself, now, but realistically..what's the point when it's counterproductive to the franchise's development, long term?
It's not even a debate, it's just common sense. The rewards don't come close to outweighing the risks.

Last season I decided to play my starters in my Q match against Romp just to see how I matched up against some lower A teams. I ended up losing in OT, I was so happy! :P
Oh, I'm playing most of my starters this week....trying out a couple guys in new positions in the midfield as an experiement ...
My opponent is pretty good, and has a team rating of 41. I should still lose by 4 pretty easily.

I gave up 8 goals last season with garbage for defense. I'd be surprised if I give up 5 next season.
