fla21667: No, I disagree. I think it's a huge difference whether Crosby makes someone look bad, or Chris Neil. You also have to factor in a larger sample size, when possible.
One player is an MVP, the other is a stiff.
If you can't see that difference, and how it absolutely applies to determining how effective a defenseman is (in the hockey scenario) then my suggestion to you would be stay out of coaching either sport, because you'd fail miserably.
Although more then likely you can see the difference, but you're simply defending your mentor. That's understandable.
It's clear to me that Lakay once again isn't paying as much attention to the team as he should be.
Hell, it should've been a red flag from the start when he 'hired' someone to help him.
This country isn't so big you need an assistant to do your grunt work for you. If you don't have the time to do the job, then you don't apply for it. Simple as that.
When I ran the U20 team in Hockeyarena, I delegated exactly zero of the work.
That's what I expect out of the NT manager here. Our country isn't that big. I'd also expect the NT manager to pay attention to the details of matches, which again, it appears Seca was doing a better job of that then Lakay and Vondo.
I sincerely hope that next season an excellent tactical manager runs for the position that has the time and dedication to put in. It's been painfully obvious over the course of the season that Lakay hasn't done so. Only when his ass and integrity as a coach were on the line did he manage to scrape us into the round of 32.
That's just not good enough for me. If that's all it took to appease the country then I'd have run for the position knowing I could, with absolute certainty, do the same.

Wow... anyone know a class in tact or anger management? ;)
Lakay has my full support, and as far as a tactician, I have full faith he is right up there.

i'm not in charge of the matches :)
so dont put me in anything of this.
I think Lakay has done a good job, its just that the other teams have done a great job.
The forms' of our forwards have also killed us because they arent too good.

Islander, I will also say this. Football fans do not look at who a player is playing against, simply put, results speak. Maybe he should not have been off the team, but it would surely make me want to look at other options.
IMO the form of our strikers has hurt more than anything else.
Islander: Thank you for your critique and please continue to do so for me and the next manager. We need this kind of pressure on the NT manager.
I didn't check ou opponent because it was a friendly. In frindlies I look at our tactic and our team and I was wrong for not checking our opponent. I spend less time on friendlies because I don't really look at results (win or lose makes no difference to me in friendlies).
You might feel that I've been negligent with the NT but let me assure you that you're getting the very best that I can do.
Thanks again.

Apologies - didn't mean to start something. :S Just felt a little sorry for Duvnant (I'm not saying he's NT caliber - just didn't think this was a fair test). And I wasn't suggesting anything about the manager.
Btw - interesting Chris Neill was used in the hockey analogy - he grew up about a 1/2 hour from where I live. :)

I would also add I don't think having an assistant suggests anything about a manager's energy or enthusiasm. Different people have different styles. I actually think it's kind of generous to delegate some responsibilities. The goal of NTs is to cultivate peoples interest in the game, and involving as many managers as possible in the operations of the NT seems a great way to do that. :)
PS - tho I watch most all the US games, I was particularly interested in this one as Lithuania is in New Zealand's group for the WC. Was a good scouting opportunity. :) It's quite natural Lakay and Vondo would focus on their attention primarily on the play of the US side, since there won't be any meaningful matches between US and Lithuania anytime soon.

South Park, right? One of these times I'm going to watch that. :)
Umm actually in McKenzie-speak it is hoser, not hosehead ;)
Didn't realise you guys were fluent. ;)
I'll stop spamming your NT thread now.

I will apologize for being umm... a little more belligerent then I might have been otherwise if perhaps I had said something last season when I had some concerns.
instead, I kept them to myself - so they began to accumulate. I only want the best for this team. Win or lose.
fla21667: You want to joke about my lack of tact, it was my actual use of tact that kept me from griping about things to Lakay last season.
I know first hand from being an NT coach in another game that the last thing a struggling coach needs to hear is how badly he's struggling. That's why I saw no productive point in airing concerns then. Midway through last season, Lakay needed to focus his energy on resurrecting the team's results, not defending himself against complaints. Now was a better time to do so. Well as good a time as any.
Good luck this series Lakay - please prove my concerns wrong. Really, please do.
