Watched the match.
Granted, the red card was a critical blow.
Still, watching that match, it was pretty evident to me that we were tactically outmanaged all over the field. Even before the red card we were getting abused.
Can't blame the strikers, they were seldom put in a legitimate position to score.
Can't blame the defenders...the Czech manager had Lakay's tactic read like a book. His strikers even pre-red card had many chances and Bogan stood on his head for awhile there.
Set plays and throw-ins? Completely laughable positioning.
the only thing I can say in Lakay's defense is, that this formation/tactic hadn't been used before (or not in recent play).
Still, without the red card we still lose, no question in my mind. He knew exactly where your players would be and positioned accordingly.
let's hope we can rebound and make amends next week. Luck plays a factor into many results, and who knows, maybe we can get lucky!
edit: can't....spell...this post :)

nice to take the non-constructive criticism well...
Anyway, i for one can't wait if islander can get his gm-skills going and gets a real team to field to see if he can do tactics himself that would stand up to his critique of the top managers.

Don't put people down just cus they don't like the performance of our NT coach.
Opinions make us better than the communists.

I'll vote for Islander for NT coach just because I'd like to see the inevitable meltdowns after criticism.
benmor: I'll be running in the future, you'll get your chance.
I just don't expect it to be next term.
I've got to focus on getting my team properly rebuilt from initial cheap trainees. Although I don't regret my past history, the only disappointing loss I've had was last seaosn's promotion - but that's been reconciled. It was a simple matter of my subpar GM skills costing me. That particular problem is resolved now.
I'm pretty close to finishing the task though. The defense is finally set with 3 players worthwhile and younger...the midfield is on target for replacement process... and my strikers are developing well. They will be all set by early next season - right in time for A competition.
If the NT involved GM skills, I would be nowhere near fit by my own admittance. Although I don't regret the core decisions I've made - just made some bad mistakes with transfer decisions. Fiscal mistakes really cost you in this game.
Very likely in season 13-14 though.
As far as the criticism, I'm just calling it how I saw it. It's the World freakin Cup now. There's no time for sugar coating. It's one thing to be outlucked or outrandomed - but in my opinion that simply wasn't the case.
I watched the match twice before I posted.
I also simply don't care if it puts a bulls-eye on my back in the future either. I welcome the challenge.

I could not elaborate on your comments in a public forum because I have another game coming up.
your analysis
Being outshot 18 to 14 with 1 central defender red carded (against top class strikers) is not so bad. That's all I can say.
Why I'm thanking you
Pressure on the NT coach to perform better is a good thing so keep the comments and critics coming. This thread would be dead if it wasn't for you and a few others. I had to ask for cheers this season, only a handfull of you really follow the NT closely.

Respectfully, and as constructively as I can word it, Lakay:
1) shots for - or against - don't tell the story. This game calls some awfully pathetic excuses for shots as such. I prefer to analyze the overall quality of shots (and the number of what I deem quality shot opportunities.
Otherwise, I can totally respect your desire to keep things vague in public. :)
2) Indeed, losing a center defender hurt. However, losing one of 4 isn't nearly as crippling a blow as using one of 3. Three defenders should've been fine to handle two strikers. Everyone's world class at this level - or at least I'd like to hope so (Poland excluded - they are superhuman class). Maybe I'm incorrect though.
I just believe that match was lost tactically speaking, before the red card. We were in many aspects predictable, and our opponent clearly wasn't. It'd have taken some good fortune for us to win that game without the red card. We were getting handled before it.
edit: All that being said - let's go USA! Take out the Netherlands this Saturday, and last week doesn't really matter :)

There are more people following the NT than you think.
I watched most of the match last Saturday and I was shocked to see, how the opponent's forward were left alone in and around our box - even before the red card.
From that perspective I have to agree with most of WHAT islander said. HOW he wrote it, is a completely different story, though.
Still, I am certain that I could NOT do a better job than you. Therefore ... cheers to you and the NT. I wish you have a better hand with your tactics in the upcoming match.

Thank you for your comments, it's reassuring to know that many users follow the NT.
I've had to drag this thread from the bottom of the page several times even when we had important games coming.
Thanks again

the original post was written harshly, because the time for sugarcoating was last season.
You didn't hear much from a 'harsh' critic like myself last season - not until really late. When really, there were tons of opportunities earlier last season, if I were truly "mean-spirited".
I think Lakay understands the intent of my criticism though. It's not personal. I just want to see a gameplan better then I'd think up out of our national coach.
It wouldn't matter who the national coach was. It's a position I'm critiquing here...not the person behind it.

I really didn't see anything harsh the first time. You had a different take on the game than what I saw, and that's normal.
I'm very open to suggestions and if you want to offer or hear more details sokkermail me.

How many conditionals do you use? Have you considered using a conditional to move a def mid to the backline incase of a red card?
Wait a sec...you can use a conditional in this game to move a def midfielder to the back line (if you have a defender red card?)
