Sounds like you didn't add enough spots :P
I've had a too-small arena almost my entire career here, why change that now?

Are the sponsorship dollars paid out based on fan base or league level?
Last week I received a measely 35 888 $.

It's based on the number of supporters, influenced by their happiness.
When you say happiness... What makes someone truly feel 'happy'.
As long as your team is doing decent, your sponsors should be steadily increasing and so should your sponsorship money. It just takes time.
I have a friend that is in B-League, I am in C-League. I have about 25 more fans than him (370+) and my fans are madly in love with my team, while his are only satisfied.
He is getting $65k per week compared to my $35k.
From this, I gather that league levels dictate sponsorship dollars more than number of fans and happiness.
There is one thing that may come into play and that is stadium size. He has 2000 more benches than me, but I am in the process of increasing my stadium to the same size. Perhaps that will help, and I'll post what happens to my sponship dollars after my next home match.

Stadium does not affect sponsor cash, but league does indeed.
