Subject: Cup meaningless? A discussion...

2007-04-07 03:12:21
"that's your opinion - you're entitled to it.

I've got my priorities: league --> friendly league (assuming it stays the one I'm in) --> and then Cup."

If your prioritize a friendly league over the cup, maybe Guac needs to do some more mentoring.

Remind me again how your Cup match went Wednesday?
2007-04-07 03:26:14
What is the cup made of? If you win it, can you sell it?

"Remind me again how your Cup match went Wednesday?"

How my cup match went Wednesday has absolutely no bearing on your argument that the cup is meaningless.

For me there is one reason why I like the cup. It's a good source of income.
The income of cup games is much higher than from friendly games or friendly cups.
I'm probably out in the next round, but I made more in the last two games than in 5 or more friendly games...

You didn't answer my question. nice try thou

I would never sacrifice training my trainees. And would never suggest any team too. What does that have to do with prestige?

i don't understand this thread.....and I'm not sure why I read it....much less responded.

i like the income from the cup....though I can't last long in it.

but why do you care if islander or jono prefer to play in their friendly league? if their friendly league means more to them then the cup.....then who cares if they call it meaningless? it still has meaning to other people.

last time i checked it was a game....people can play it the way that it is fun for them.

My priority is league, and then training. If I can win a Cup match and train EXACTLY the way I need to that week, great. If not, well, there's always a friendly to play in where I can train how I want.

I'll take a Cup run next year, when my b-team trainees are good enough and I won't have to worry about relegating out of the ML. This year, I need the points... :)

read it again man

I dont see it, where did you answer this question?

Why is winning the cup less prestiges then winning the ML?
2007-04-07 07:36:23
p.s. not take take anything away from what you said, I agree with that part.
2007-04-07 11:39:44
why dont they just increase the amount of supports that join your team if and when you are winning cup matches, and then it would basically be nearly equal value to choose to go cup or trainee.

Fro's reply displays the almost opposite philosophy of my squad. I don't subscribe to the old HT mentality that you need a set group of 'trainees' that you buy, train, and resell. I'm not into playing an economics game, I want to have the best homegrown USA team in Sokker.

For me training is a method to make my entire squad better. So when I'm training defending I'm typically training at least 8 guys from my starting lineup, my defenders and mids, when I'm training technique I'll be training the 8 or even 9 guys from my starting lineup that need it the most. So when it's Cup season I simply train pace, and play my regular lineup in both matches, with a couple of subs who are good enough filling in. I've always got a couple of backups capable of filling in so injuries don't scare me off.

While this approach probably means I'll never have a squad full of foreign studs to get me in the top 4 of the ML, I'm fine with that. It's the way I want to play Sokker.
2007-04-07 14:30:12
With that being said, you do buy foreign studs. :}

You have to fill in the spots your junior squad doesn't supply. I'd hate to imagine my lineup if I was still using the attackers and keeper I started out with! LOL

I think that the Cup winners should expereince a 5-10% increase in their fanclub members, in addition to winning a cash prize.
