Subject: Cup meaningless? A discussion...
You're starting to get islander's point? Islander's point appears to be that I'm a crappy manager, though he doesn't really support that argument with anything substantial.
What you said was that I was bordering on offensive, and I asked where I wsa bordering on offensive? To use a different usage of the word, I'm actually on the *defensive* here, as I was the one being attacked (by islander and your brother).

All that the thread that's named **** says is that my friendly league is starting "join up suckers."
If that's offensive I'm shocked.
That thread was closed because you had 2 open threads about your cup. Not because of "join up suckers". Kapish?

Perhaps where you called something "pure idiocy", and another thing "beyond stupid". I guess i'm thin skinned, but i'd consider both of those bordering on offensive, eh?
ANYWAY the other thread on the cup was closed already because you and islander (for the most part, jon joined in after) were picking at eachother, so you went and started this one to continue it and were stating things like above.
I'm not closing this thread, because i think it's an interesting discussions and others may as well. Honestly, i think that the cup SHOULD be more important, so any notice to this issue is good as well.
However, please consider this thread closed to petty squabbling. Any more picking at people is gonna be deleted.

As i said, picking is gonna be deleted.
Take it to sk-mail if you want to have a discussion with me. And don't even accuse me of behaving wrong, i've told islander to stop as much as you, and he has, but you're continuing. Jon wasn't nearly as bad.

You may not want to "pick up interest" in the cup.

I for 1 would take a CUP title over anything other than a ML title, and would probably take a CUP title over a ML title if I already had a ML title.
Do Lakay and Fro think they can pull a cup title out of there ass any season they want? or is it just to hard to win in both WHILE training all those "SUPER" talented trainees?

It's impossible in a developed country to win both without sacrificing training.
When KY used to do it, there were much fewer quality USA teams, and he also often trained GK or something like that so he could double-play starters.

You don't have to win both the same season.

Infact thats pretty much my point. It isn't going to get any easier to win the cup.
I don't understand this debate. If any of the ML teams played their a-teams in the Cup, there are only about 4 teams not in the ML that could win the Cup. I don't play my a-team in the Cup, because I'd rather train and succeed long-term (ie winning the ML someday, or at least competing each season). There really can't be any discussion about whether some b-league team or most a-league teams would be able to compete against Fro, Lakay, KY Cats, Billy or me (those of you that argue the list, see the USA's average ratings week to week). Babes, Ravens, 3wide and Vision could also probably compete if they played their a-teams as well. I might have missed a few.
When you grow your team to be good, you'll each have to decide whether a Cup win is more important than long-term success (which can only be achieved through good training). I pick long-term success. I'm #1 in the ML, and should finish in the top 5 this season. Is my choice is right for any other team - well, each reader of this thread can decide for themselves.

I haven't bothered to read the 40 new messages. Probably better that way. Just our resident genius benmor's initial reply to me.
However, benmor insists on saying I think the Cup is meaningless.
In reality, I never said it quite like this.
Now, I recall saying whoever WINS the Cup is meaningless, because in the end its the team who actually tries, and invariably makes sacrifices in training. The sheer fact that most elite teams don't try their best to win makes the Cup title meaningless. It's a hollow championship.
No, the Cup winner isn't the second best team in the country. The 2nd place team in ML is.
If the Sokker admins want to actually give the Cup some integrity, they will run it on a third day of the week. No one says their needs to be a major training bump as a result. Just have it on this third day so it won't interfere with the training of our teams. That way teams do not have to concern themselves with sacrificing training (which intelligent managers do not do).
Now, you'd still have to worry about injuries...and some teams wouldn't try just because of that. However, this amount of teams would be rather small - at least in my opinion.
I'd play my starters in a Cup match if it were run on a third day. I'd risk the starter injury.
However, the Sokker admins to date have decided to run the Cup based on the ass backwards model of Hattrick.
Now...as far as benmor78 copping out of not answering the question "how did your cup match go last week'. We all know the answer. You didn't have one! Mister 4 season A-league team already got beat. You clearly prioritize the Cup far more then I do, yet my B squad advanced further in the Cup then whatever squad you decided to put out there.
I find that rather humorous.

I didn't accuse you of behaving wrong. I said I don't understand why your acting like I've done something wrong, when I'm the one being attacked.
Please don't delete my comments and then mischaracterize them.

Yes, I prioritize the cup, Islander. Having the cup on a third day would not work with the way that the training system takes place, so that's not going to happen.
And, since you want to get into a pissing match about it despite the fact that I've avoided it to this point, my team is better than yours. If we met in the cup or league, I'd win. It's as simple as that. I know you think that your team is great. We get it, your team is fantastic and you're a wonderful manager. But, if you played lousy ol' me, you'd still lose 9 times out of 10.

I've mixed and matched trainees in the cup and league with some success. That's why winning the cup is a managerial challenge and *should* be considered an accomplishment.
I find it interesting that you didn't include me on that list but included 3wide, considering my record against them.

benmor78: They already have NT matches on a third day.
Why again would it not work to add Cup matches as well? Outside of the NT players playing....of course.

Realism, for one thing. This isn't baseball or hockey, but in your world players would be playing games potentially 4 times a week.
Either way, the very fact that you have to play trainees in cup makes the cup a *greater* managerial challenge than the league. One game isn't typically going to end your league season, but it will end your cup season. The season that I made it the farthest in the cup I played a mixed group of strikers for league and cup. I also wouldn't be above training stamina if I wanted to reach a particular round of the cup... it's still a skill that needs to be trained.
