Subject: Cup meaningless? A discussion...

2007-04-08 23:54:52
Realism, for one thing. This isn't baseball or hockey, but in your world players would be playing games potentially 4 times a week.

Either way, the very fact that you have to play trainees in cup makes the cup a *greater* managerial challenge than the league. One game isn't typically going to end your league season, but it will end your cup season. The season that I made it the farthest in the cup I played a mixed group of strikers for league and cup. I also wouldn't be above training stamina if I wanted to reach a particular round of the cup... it's still a skill that needs to be trained.

greater managerial challenge?

It takes all of the relevance out of the title. Plain and simple.

The only matches that matter are ones between teams starting 11. Meaning league matches.

Until changes are made to facilitate that here, my opinion will never change.

There's no managerial challenge using radically inferior players against an opponent who plays starters and trains stamina pointlessly.

You can't outmanage radical differential in talent. Only minor to modest differentials.

So I suppose if you play a team that has had some injuries, and aren't playing their top 11, that match doesn't matter? The Sokker admins throw those match results out, right?

As far as I'm concerned, if someone is saying the "cup doesn't matter" they don't have the personnel to win, flat out.

If you beat a team in league that has 4 players out, you better have the intelligence to know you got lucky facing him with said injuries.

Otherwise, you are entitled to your opinion just as I am. Again, the irony is, I'm playing next Wednesday - and you're not.

Yeah, I got a bad break and was bounced from the cup. It was unfortunate.

But I don't understand why you're bragging about your cup wins when you keep saying they're hollow victories.

Anyone else notice you guys are having this battle or whatever in two diffrent threds.

No disrespect to anyone, but can you guys just shut up.

I'd be happy too. Benmor can't seem to help bringing it up over and over though.
2007-04-09 02:19:34
You just restarted it on the other thred.

incorrect. He was mocking me and my HA Cup that entire original post.

That was his sole intent.

Can't we all just get along? Or maybe Islander and Benmor can create the "My dad is bigger than your dad" thread?

I'm in agreement with you. Benmor should just let it go. If he does at this point, so will I.

Hell, the entire topic title of this thread was mocking my opinion. I won't stand for that, plain and simple. If you want it to end, tell him to shut it. Stop starting threads mocking me, my opinions, or otherwise.

He really should just focusing on not losing.
That clearly needs his entire concentration right now. Or maybe he's just tanking in hopes of losing to me in the qualifier. Who knows.

Touche Islander, you got me there. But that comment was not just aimed at you.

I haven't been here long enough to have much comment, on topic this topic that is. However, in other games I make an effort to win in the cup as long as I can, but without losing training along the way. A bot in my league tonight got my B-Team trainees so I could save my starters for Wednesday (HT, as an example). I do try to juggle my lineups to extend both runs as long as I can.

So, I guess that means I think the Cup does have meaning, but I will not give up training or my league goals to try to slightly extend my run. Once I am out I do usually join a friendly Cup, but I never pull starters to play in those games over league games.
