Subject: Cup meaningless? A discussion...

2007-12-24 17:12:19
I agree with the cash, but the matchups themselves are meaningless when they aren't starting 11s.

Just because I beat jonandabby and dagwood in the cup last season with partial starters or whatevever gives me no delusions I can beat their starting 11's.

it is what it is. It demonstrates the ability to be a good tactical manager to some degree (because those guys do beat other good teams with their lineups) but other then that...not much.

Then take advantage of those teams who aren't playing their starting 11s, and advance until you are playing some who are.

If I hadn't given the Cup meaning this year I wouldn't be able to say that my squad came closer to beating Trogdor than any other club this season, League or Cup.

Still relatively meaningless victories in the grand scheme. To each their own.

Islander, everyone knows that's balderdash and poppycock. Plus, everyone in the sokker community is well aware of the fact that you wear effeminate underpants.

i have tried harder in the cup in the last 3 seasons than in the regular season.

*yawn*

having no chance to win the ML will do that.

so here we are, same place as a couple seasons ago.

Good thing I have too much time to waste today. No one's here at work practically, but as contractors we're stuck here essentially getting paid for nothing.

Whereas most everyone else is getting paid for nothing, but actually home.

I am self-employed, sitting at home not getting paid.

The cup doesn't mean as much as it should. Success depends on a lot on what you are training and how tough your league is.

I agree Billy.

I have said this in the past --> if the Cup is ever going to really matter, they need to play it on Saturdays, with NC matches.

To give the Cup legitimate meaning, don't make training choices a factor in the results.

I know some will disagree, but doing this will eliminate any excuse unless some team has 4 guys out due to NT responsibilities, I guess.
2007-12-24 20:24:38
Training choices are only a factor in the results if you let them be.
2007-12-24 21:41:07
True, but every choice has consequences.

In my suggestion, it'd be a non-factor, as it is in the other soccer sim we both play.

To me, the cup is a very good chance to see my progress. I have played most if not all of the ML teams at some point and I was able to beat some of them. I don't care if they don't use their "A" team. I just know that I am still waiting for the time I can play nanook again and I hope it wont be a 3-0 loss again. The ML teams can say anything they want, but the team that comes from ML into my league next season will not have an easy ride. To prove it the top team from ML did not had an easy game against the top team from our league, and nanook came out of our league, among others teams.

It is meaningless. I train in a particular way, and trying in the Cup would mess that up. So I don't bother. I congratulate Lakay and Billy this season, just like I did KY and Babes last season. In a few seasons when my trainees are all grown up and I feel like doing some stamina training mid-season, maybe I'll try to win a week or two. But until then, nope.
2007-12-26 17:01:26
I understand. You can say that because you are at the top, but some small team from B. A team that has a lot to improve should not be saying something like that. I don't think even a team in the A. Our teams don't have the financial power to build two teams. I just keep my trainees and that's it. This season my run in the cup help me a lot to get more fans in the stadiums and in the fan club. Therefore I get more income every match even the friendly games.
