OK...I bit the bullet and paid for Plus. It's pretty cool. I'm still playing with it and getting a feel for it. My biggest question is what is, and how do you use, the Assistant on the Coach's page?
It's a feature where you can input certain "weights" for specific skills for a given position, to come up with a a numerical representation of how "good" that player would be at that position.
I don't think it's all that valuable, for a number of reasons...
1) How well a player plays and how well he contributes what skill he has to the match depend a lot on the tactic and where the player plays, and less on the order (ATT, MID, DEF) given to him.
2) For most people, the assistant doesn't really help you determine where the player needs to play on the pitch, and how the tactic can be set up to best utilize him. For instance, 2 players get the same rating from the assistant for "mid." One has high pace, low tech... he'll play poorly in the middle of the pitch, generally, but you'll see much better ratings from him out on the wings, spaced away (either outside of or in front of) the opposing wing defenders. Likewise, if the other player has higher tech and defense, you'd be better off playing him in the middle...

What benmor said is pretty much on the mark.
I think it's useful to new teams because it lets them figure out who might be good for what based on what game plan they want to mess around with.
In fact I think Guacamole's Sokker Manager has an improved version of this 'assistant' integrated (or is that in version 3.1 soon to come Guac?).
But once you've played a few games you start to get a feel not only for not only your players attributes but also how they play in matches.
Scouting opponents is the biggest reason to buy PLUS imo.

the functionality similar to assistant has been there a LONG time.
All that's in 3.1 (when i finally tweak field sizes on every screen and finish working with the linguists) is multi-language and the team lineup tool...
