2007-08-13 21:21:40
He'll he's behind me, his tactics must really suck.
2007-08-13 21:22:28
I know right, cus you're realllly bad
2007-08-13 21:24:38
Now stop that, before I make a super tactic that will banish all of you yokels into a different space time continuum so that I will OWN the game!

Oh wait that might be a bit over the top for even his posting.
2007-08-15 12:55:45
I challenge you to a duel!
2007-08-15 17:05:43
To see which of you is worse at Sokker?
2007-08-15 22:31:55
We all know who that will be.
2007-08-16 05:01:30
ummm

not sure if anybody read the Mr-Llama for National Team Head Coach Forum I made

I think this position is mine no matter what
2007-08-16 07:35:29
Baaaah, go back to your sheep you Kiwi. ;0
2007-08-16 13:11:30
because I know benmor cares about me sooo much, I've updated my 'closed' team news.

Not completely ditching the game. Just not going to waste my time outmanaging opponents just to see the game engine crap on me anymore.
2007-08-16 15:29:42
Oh man he has awoken. I would say I have better odds of being NT coach, and I am not even going to run!
2007-08-16 17:49:45
Who says you're out-managing them? Besides you, of course...

I have nothing against you, so don't take this criticism the wrong way, but...

Nary a word comes out of your mouth (read: press releases, forum posts, NT coaching critiques) that doesn't tout your vastly superior knowledge of SK tactics.

At some point (today, let's say), if you look hard through the pudding, you'll find the proof.

In closing, I'd say that perhaps, PERHAPS, the only place where your SK tactical skills are superior is within your own subjective understanding of how the game works. Your frustration arises from the fact that you refuse to see things any other way:

"The game engine sucks, I'm a tactics god. Period."

My advice is to go back to the drawing board and try to exploit these perceived flaws in the game. You don't get good at SK from being a good soccer tactician. You get good at SK from being a good Sokker tactician.

Or, you could just quit. :-)

(Don't waste your time picking my tactics apart, they're basically the stock tactics. I suck at SK, and I can accept it.)

codymac: The reason I say my tactics are superior is because I completely understand how to exploit weaknesses in other team's game plans like few people I've seen do.

I put my players offensively where my opponents are not. Defensively, their players are always covered. That's expert tactics. However, goals are still scored against despite it. That's how soccer works sometimes, I understand. Where I really feel screwed most is on the offensive side.

Still, you can put your players in position to win every single game, and they still sometimes won't. I've beaten a lot of better teams then mine this way over my year in this game.

However, I've also, the past couple seasons, lost points in matches against pathetic opponents thanks to little more then random luck. Killing a team yet seeing them magically score 2 goals on 4 shots. Or having their solid goalkeeper stop all 26 shots against, all taken by excellent or formidable shooters from close range.

The same opponent will get killed by 5-6 goals by fellow B2 mate Pewsum. It's not because his team's way better then mine. It's just stupid luck. For a while, Pewsum was in a similar funk actually, a steady victim of 'random results'.

The only proof in this game's pudding is that the random factor in results is far too random for my liking. Too random to make the tactical editor a tool of any use.
Tactics simply don't matter.

Everyone in the ML realizes this. Now I see why, and it's disappointing. I felt this and the match viewer were the best aspects of the game. The ability to actually see your tactical success in action.

The tactical editor - it's almost a total waste. It makes you think you can influence your team in a positive matter. At least it made me think so.

But in the end, it does very little. You still have to rely on luck to allow your excellent and formidable strikers to score one goal out of 26 shots - most from within the 18 yd box. You have to rely on your defender to not be run over by a forward even though he's in perfect head-on position to tackle him. Etc. Etc.

Some of my non-victories have been due to personnel issues, and I understand that.

Others are just total randomness, and ties and defeats are given to you despite having the better scoring opportunities, the better tactics, and the better team.

In a season with many games, this isn't horrible. Sokker's season isn't many games. It's just 14 - and two garbage luck/results like my last two matches effectively ruin yet another season.

I'd much rather take a defeat that I felt was legitimately earned without the providence of randomness. I don't really complain about those results. Unless I'm bitching at myself on my league thread for mistakes I made :)

Uhm, no. No no no. I doubt ANYONE in the ML would say that.

It's true many of the teams don't change their tactics much, because many of them aren't motivated to do so, but we all have tactics we like. And i think most of us know that any similarly skilled team with better tactics would beat a predictable tactic.

Btw, if you don't think i (one of the ML teams) feel that tactics matter, look at my scrubs (played 3 or 4 b-teamers, including some on the defensive line) shutting down fromo's infamous cross-passes last week in the brand new tactic i created just for that purpose.

Uh-oh guys... Islander has risen from the grave to challenge for his crown as reigning "Lower Leaguer Who Brags About Tactics." You guys better start campaigning, or you lose by default.

As a decent ML team, I'll weigh in. I don't change my tactics much for a few reasons:
1) Laziness; and
2) I prefer the Washington Redskins model circa Joe Gibbs part one. Everyone knew he was going to run John Riggins over the tackles. The thing is, even with the knowledge, his strategy and players were so superior that they couldn't be stopped. My philosophy is that I try to develop a good plan, and THEN I BUY AND TRAIN PLAYERS TO EXCEL IN THAT FORMATION. I do occasionally flop spots or tweak where they go in certain circumstances because my ML competition isn't stupid. But realistically, I made a basic tactic that I like, and then am building my team to play in that manner.

In reality, then, I believe that the tactic editor in this game is CRITICAL. You have to build a good tactic, and then use economic and training strategies to make sure that the team you have can succeed in that tactic.

It has seemed to work so for.

Dude, he actually is pretty good at tactics. He'll be in a-league soon enough.
