Subject: The End of an Era??

NOG.
2007-08-16 19:44:08
I think "shouldn't" is the operative word there. Never nor ever was used.

I agree with the gimp, islander1 is a solid tactician, but he has had crap luck. We have all had it, but he is on a roll of poor luck.

Guac: NOG?
2007-08-16 19:52:48
A nog is a nod with attitude. dude, keep up with 10-year-old bbspeak.

Sorry I was too busy listening to my Soundgarden CDs.
2007-08-16 20:07:48
Soundgarten? I listen religiously to Wayne Newton. I'm old, you see.
2007-08-16 20:11:30
No, that was 10 years ago, when Guac was NOGGING.

""I shouldn't lose, or tie matches where I dominate play, pile on many shots from high percentage areas, only to see none of them go in the net on a subpar keeper."

You shouldn't? Ever?"

No. It's completely illogical and unrealistic.

You want to alter any one of those contingencies, and then I'd say OK, every once in a while. If you've got a great keeper it can make a difference. If you only had 3-4 truly great opportunities then yeah, thats realistic to fail on them all. Matches like last week...or the Cleveland Heights match from the previous season, are just unbelievable by any standard.

While other teams dominating B league get 5-0, 6-1 results against these teams...somehow only my strikers seem to be cursed by the sokker gods many weeks. Breakaways, open nets, open looks, doesn't matter what I do to put my players in good positions to score.

Like I said in a previous post. My first season I could attribute it to just having C league strikers. OK, fine.

This season, should be a cakewalk with the lineup I've got right now. Except for pewsum's matches. We're equals - finally after two seasons in league playing catchup. I can beat him, or he can beat me. Firmly established, as I think our career series is virtually dead even at 3-2 me now. He's got a very good team, A league caliber, and he's a smart soccer guy as well.

So, IRL, a team never loses a game it should win? You should tell that to Dallas Mavericks fans.
2007-08-16 20:23:40
Maybe if the Mavericks played defense...

and I said never, under a certain subset of circumstances.

That's still a ridiculous assertion. The game is still based on probabilities. Just because it's based on probabilities involving individual players doesn't make it not so... In HT, you deal with mostly 3 sets of probabilities... attack, defense, midfield. In Sokker, you have 11 players, each with their own sets of probabilities. Just because a player is a good player and *less likely* to make a dumb play doesn't mean they won't make a dumb play, or multiple dumb plays.

Hell, ask USC... damn Bruins.....
2007-08-16 20:28:49
well, it seems like these 'probabilities' consistently go against me. Regardless of the team quality I put on the field, or any tactical edges I give them to start with.

It's all wasted.

Maybe it's because your team and tactics aren't as good as you think they are.
2007-08-16 20:36:22
I simply know thats not the case then. I'm the same team that soundly beat Pronghorns in week 1.

The match boxscores would dictate that. A couple of my matches this season I've made mistakes. I'm not saying every single match I play has great tactics - because I havent tried many matches so far because of time constraints and inability to do this from work. But every one I actually try - yes, they do.

The one exception is two matches ago. Cleveland Heights changed to a very olld tactic set from the one he had been using for 2 months just out of the blue.

To make it even more improbable he'd do something like that...he logged in only once all week previous. So it totally blindsided me, and made me end up offsides a ton because I set up for the tactic he had been using for several weeks earlier.

Then I had a defender red card in the first half. More good luck.

So I can write off that one. Fine. Then this pile of crap last week came along on top of it.

The season here is just too short for all this randomness. Two negative random results and in many cases your season is done for.
2007-08-16 21:00:05
That happened to me a few seasons back. I kept getting red carded and injuries. Very frustrating.
2007-08-16 21:47:38
Sounds like it's unfortunate that you're in the league you're in. My first game I lost on a complete fluke. However, I still think I'll win.
