Subject: Stats ??
I actually train strikers, and I put the importance at around .5/1/1. I'd rather have lots of pace and tech and less striker. Perhaps your priorities are resulting in the issue you talk about in the "shots" thread.
You people are crazy. What good is a striker that can get to the ball and control it but can't shoot it past the goalie????
What good is a striker that can't get in good position to shoot?
In my experience, good striking is about as low as I'll go in a starting striker (but good striking still scores goals).
I suppose that it all depends on how much weight you put on the probabilities of a, say, brilliant striker getting off a good shot. I'd rather have a outstanding pace / outstanding tech striker with only good striking (so he can get into position to take lots of shots) than a solid pace / solid tech striker with outstanding striker.

some of this you can work around with tactical positioning though.
Although I do agree that it's not a great idea to have a striker who is mediocre in both pace and tech.
Personally, I'm trying to end up with one of each...one that's good in shooting and tech, and one that's good in shooting and pace.
Because I won't be able to afford one with all three :)

lol Islander and I think alike
And benmor, my goals per shot would probably be even less if I had less shot and more pace/tech....
But it's not like i lack pace/tech
I just do what islander does
i haven't even been here a season so i definitely can't afford all 3
so i get a VG striker with solid pace and VG defending (i usually wouldn't care bout the defending but that's just what my guy has)
and I get another striker with VG striker and solid tech. while his pace may only be average.
Then with some special tactics you can place them in positions to benefit their strengths and lessen their weaknesses.

the key I think is understanding you can't half ass it doing this.
Having a striker with 3 pace ranks higher then tech, and the tech is good, isn't going to cut it.
He's gotta be fast enough to create separation between the defender and himself before he reaches the ball. Tactics irrelevant.

Well I'm only a season in and my money is at 50K
doubtful i can pull a triple god
especially when i'm training strikers and they have to be under 20

I would rather have the high pace high tech striker. I would not go lower than excellent striker thou.
I think with high tech/pace its easier to use your tactics to get quality shot where you don't need higher than excellent striker to score. But I'm in A league now so you may need higher than excellent in the ML.

lol you guys all act like excellent striker is nothing
I'm in C league guys, remember that
I'd take an excellent striker anyday

You don't need an excellent striker.
When I won my back to back B league titles my leading scorer had good striking.

But you would have given your left *** for Josh Abshire, had I put him on the market!
He's now 26, but still scoring [when not injured] about 4 goals per game.
Josh Abshire, age 26
divine form, incredible tactical discipline
formidable stamina,
formidable pace,
very good technique,
very good passing,
hopeless keeper
solid defender
weak playmaker
formidable striker
Ive been thinking of selling him .. wonder if I could get much.

damn....thats not as good as I thought he might've been, actually. Still better then what I have presently...but not by a ton. He's just faster.

it is a current idea in the last few days from your side....^_^
Both of my starting strikers have more pace and technique than they have striking. I place it at something like .75/1/1 ratio on striking/technique/pace. I used to think technique was the best thing to have and as such my strikers were all just technique mutants. But I'm training pace now and I have instantly started scoring more. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.
excellent striking is enough in the ML in my opinion. Purple Lazers and Cats can attest to that. I think Cats used to play with a solid striker that was divine pace and Lazers had one with a little better striking but less pace.
My scoring machine is not high on striking either.
