download AVG Free.
1-you probably need to re-scan your drive to make sure there are not remnants of the virus on the drive.
2- make sure your anti-virus program ALSO has anti-rootkit (rootkits are virus type code that lay dormant, then become active. alot of anti-virus programs do NOT scan for rootkits)
3- if you continue to get virus or malware, turn OFF System Restore, then scan and reboot (alot of viruses reload with the System Restore setting on). after you are sure your computer is clean (after several scans) then you can turn System Restore back on.
4- if you anti-virus program allows, scan in SAFE MODE.

let me know if I can help

IF you had to reinstall Firefox, or any other program, then you have probably written over the data files, but I am not sure. A true virus destroys data.
So there is a chance you did lose data.
