Sorry in using your forum :)

I sincerely don't like him - he is getting old, there are some players much better on market, don't understand why they invested 250M in Beckham. With 250M you can make a new-good team. Just a big merchandise.

On Beckham:

- With this deal soccer fans in the far corners of the world will finally know that there's a soccer league called MLS in the USA.

- With the limits set on foreign players in the MLS we will not see top quality soccer in the USA for a long time. So signing a "Face" (high profile player) and giving the MLS and identity is the best move they could do.

- You all said it, USA's best atheletes are not going into soccer and never will. If they were USA would be the next Brazil. Soccer will never be able compete with the other sports in the USA, even with Beckham.

I disagree with you. The best athletes in the world start growing up with a sport they like, and have it set on their minds that that is going to be the sport that they will want to play professionally.

But soccer is growing in popularity. The MLS has a college draft now, and there were many students hoping to get signed. They might not have been the best quality soccer players, but it's a sign that future MLS drafts will present players with more skill.

Also, I heard talk that some MLS teams might gain entry into Copa Libertadores. If they do, they will play games against clubs from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, etc, the clubs in the Americas. If that happens, and they make a good presentation, the USA will be further recognized as a growing soccer nation. And more young kids will want to play soccer to join their favorite team in the MLS who won the Copa Libertadores=p

Not denying what you are saying, but if I see an MLS team win the Libertadores in my lifetime, it may just end my life from the shock. :)

jk..but seriously, you never know.

Mexico has been well represented, even though their national team lost to USA...=p

never is a strong word. our league is only 10 years old vs a lot of other leagues in the world close to 100, this time difference is also true to our own leagues of other sports in this country as well.

weve already seen a huge improvement, and maybe some day down the line (a very long from now, i know) it could get there. just dont say never

I'm extremely doubtful soccer will ever come close to being mainstream.

I'll say this, as a VERY casual fan of it. The best thing it has going for it is no commericals.

You can literally watch a WC or Olympic match in 2 hours flat. Thats big, I think.

Soccer is the one sport I find far more boring live then on TV. Not sure why.

It's culture. I don't watch basketball, for example. I haven't cable tv anymore, but when i had it, i just watched some games, where i could see great stars (or NY Knicks, my favourite team which never wiins :p).

I consider volleyball extremely boring, i just watch brazilian matches... I don't understand american football, baseball is a crazy game, but i like ice hockey. :)

FYI, I am past 40, so my lifetime doesn't have as much left as I have spent already, unless science improves dramatically.

Yes, the Mexican teams have represented well in the Libertadores. One made it to the Semi's IIRC. However, the establishment of the league and the sport in the country, irregardless of what the NT's have done, still make it a more likely scenario that a team from Mexico will win the Libertadores real soon.

I would love to see an MLS team play in the Libertadores first, which could be real soon. I believe their involvement in Libertadores will definitely help the league overall improve.

My hope is that CONMEBOL and CONCACAF will eventually merge and Copa America, Libertadores, etc... are regular competitions for all teams from N. America.
