raskal [del] to All
Alright, after much pondering I'll throw my hat in....
2008-05-28 00:28:22
I'll vote for you if you promise to go easy on my squad in our league matches heeeheee
2008-05-28 01:20:36
I think you'll have to go easy on my squad the way they've been playing ;) But I don't want to win votes for promising anything like that.

It will be hard to fill Seca's shoes. I don't have much luck sometimes either in this game. But I do promise to do the best for Canada.

YOU HAVE MY VOTE!!!!!

Thanks for putting your name in. Do you have ideas about how we can strengthen the national team?
2008-05-28 09:00:29
Not to be saucy lorne but what do you mean exactly by strengthen?
2008-05-29 01:48:26
Well, I am not sure what you mean by saucy...but I am thinking about long term strategies that a national team coach might take to organize and inspire the training of young players . I wanted to leave the question open to your interpretation...maybe you think that the team could be strengthened by playing with 3 forwards more often or focus on pacy players....

I didn't want to sound smart asking what you meant by what you meant :)

I think it's important to have some of the up & coming players gaining some NT experience in matches that aren't as important as the quali matches or cup matches. But I believe the extra playing time for those players will help our national squad in the long run. I would like to assume the likes of Amado & Abbas Musa will lose there spots at some point & I would to see those players to replace to have some extra experience.

As for specifics in tactics I think it's best to look at the country will be playing each week. But I am not opposed to using three strikers (mind you it hasn't helped my squad much :p).

I'm posting this question in the threads of the two front runners (at least, who I perceive as the two front runners). Any other candidates who wish to answer this question ... go right ahead! :)

Canada had a bit of a disappointing loss Saturday against Turkey. I realize you don't know specifics about Team Canada's roster, but could you make some general comments about what Canada might have done differently (tactically or with personnel) to get a better result from this match?

Hi raskal, I'm pretty curious who will be the new NT coach of Canada, who will replace Seca and his fine work with NT. When is it possible, I'm trying to at least check canadian's NT results. Now I see 2 really possible candidates on NT coach. And if it will be possible, I'll put my money on you man :) Anyway, I wish you good luck, also to your opponent and will be check this discussion again.

Hmmm that's a tough question Seca....Figures it would be you to ask this one too :p I know you had in mind that Turkiye would have their defensive line pushed up a bit but I'm wondering if it might have been beneficial to have Wang set a little less aggressive. Obviously the red card didn't help & you can't really plan for that. But I did notice that both teams left the one flank wide open. Would it have helped if O.Lavrynenko or Iginla covered a bit more of the left side. I'm not sure if their pace would handle that or not. I know you had concerns about Turkiye playing two defensive mids & wanted Iginla to be placed centrally.

lol there' no way I'll fill Seca's shoes, that's for certain. But I'll do my best for squad, that can be assured.

A very solid response. :)

I believe it would have helped if Wang had been back a little. 6 offsides isn't horrible, but they certainly don't help. He was in that position as a "hedge" in case Turkey played deeper then I expected. Certainly a valid point.

Moving someone (probably Iginla) into the open left midfield is a very sound suggestion. When the opponent strongly defends the middle I'm always torn between contesting it (since a lot of balls end up there even if you don't have any players there) or surrendering it. But we generated nothing through the middle. By contrast, we had some nice chances from wider positions. If I had the match to play over, moving Iginla to a wider position would be high on my list of things to try. :)

Congratulations on running a classy campaign. The result was very close - obviously many voters recognized you as a quality candidate. I hope you consider running again in the future - you're a skilled manager, and I think you could do great things with the national team.

Cheers Seca, thank you for the kind words.
