Subject: [NT] World Cup Qualifying

2009-09-13 12:36:59
I am scout-NT manager 2in1:)

Having a player like Lemieux I could do miracles, however so far I have done really well.
Hopefully Gilbert won´t lose any skills before the next season. I have no idea why he plays better than Morocombe, who is better. Definitely he is my favourite player.

I am wondering if I could make a deal with Seca - if I am right, then we should draw only once ( meanwhile we should take 3 points from other opponents) and we should be through even if Suomi is able to beat us.
I afraid Cymru a bit, their average mark is similar to us, so might have problems with them.

Considering Lavrynenko:
Lav was very hard to get under control.
I wish he would dribble like that in my own team, he was almost unstopable.
He missed the very nice one on ones though, like he usually does for me as well.
Then again he scores goals from almost impossible distances (he made one crazy goal from around 35 metres in my last league match) like the second one he scored in your match.
We can only really blame the unrealistic (in terms of scoring chances) match engine here, since he is superdivine.
On the other side, if he had scored some of the other great chances (I remember one where he dribbled two defenders but shot at the keeper from 6 metres and two really great running passes) this match would have ended even higher (which would have been unrealistic then...).
I just don't like the way the match engines tries to get the match results realistic by not scoring the great one on ones which are mostly results of a very good tactic (like in this match where the striker stood perfectly in about 98% of the time) and then it fails again on really, really stupid goals.

Anyways, having a single striker line up score 5 goals in a NT match against a similar if not stronger (in terms of players) team is showing that you did something damn right mate.
I have a good feeling here.

Heehee. Laying the ground work early Vilpu? Your midfield sucks ... I know your team ... you don't have a Lemieux ... sounds like the only way you could possibly win is if you are a super duper genius. :)

Astute observations on W Lav. Missed some he should have scored, scored some he should have missed. In the end it worked out ok.

He made some nice turns while dribbling, but certainly exceeded my expectations breaking tackles. NZs strikers broke a ton of tackles against the Finns last week. The Finnish defense has looked very ordinary so far (a little is tactical, some is RNG).

I can't be true Canada supporter and have best:P New Zealand striker in the team.
So I decided to sell him ;)

Good thing.
You are going to make a profit anyways.
The market for top players keeps getting more and more expensive.

I just don`t like to be the favourite, I am not though lol:) I know we will qualify and probably will you. Finland can be beaten once again, their tactics are just not that good. No need to comment more, I guess we both are great at tactics and it`s obvious what`s wrong there. During the 18 games I have lost only three games against Eesti and England, which were obvious we can`t do miracle against them. Only fail so far has been close defeat against Bosnia. We dominated, but our strikers missed every chance.

About my weak midfield...Against teams with great mids we are hopeless, for example the game against Eesti. My strikers were perfectly set, but mids weren`t able to pass - not too fast, low defense etc...

PS! I don`t have to be super duper genius to win against you, being a super genius is enough:) Btw at least for me it´s obvious which tactic you will use against me..and you probably have thought about mine too. I guess we both are right.

:)

I guess after the 5 goals for the NT and the 7 goals for my team last weekend he wanted a break.
Lav is injuried for around 2 weeks, but I'm sure Canada can play well without him!

A bad break, but fairly well timed tbh.

And that's why Vilpu's posturing is at best premature. An injury like that for the NZ match would greatly affect the Vegas odds. :)

Set for the Albania match. Missing W Lavrynenko, which isn't cool. On the bright side, Biron has his best form in ages (still only adequate) and is set to step in.
2009-09-26 07:41:33
Why Biron when there are five strikers with much better form, and higher value right now, some of whom are still getting trained? Jeez, you wouldn't even send me his player data when he was at very good form, and that was several seasons ago! Just seems like an odd choice when striker is so form sensitive.

I guess we'll see how that works, your rarely wrong.

Why Biron

My reasoning for using Biron was this. Disregarding form, Biron is the second best striker on the team. I have, over the seasons, begun to suspect that a good performance (ie., scoring a bunch of goals) has an upward influence on form. (This is my own little theory - not canon). I considered Biron's form playable, and hoped he would score a bunch today against a weaker opponent. Didn't work out obviously. Had it been a more difficult opponent, the decision may well have been different (of course, the tactic may also have changed).

there are five strikers with much better form, and higher value right now,

There are 8 strikers on the team.
W Lav and Leopold are injured.
Broussard started.
That leaves 4 other then Biron - Amado, Boissieres, Manohar, Sewell.
All have better form then Biron. Amado's value is less. Boissieres and Manohar are within 200k. Sewell 250k. I know that Manohar and Sewell have significant value in non-striker skills. Also, I have no recent data on Boissieres, Manohar & Sewell.

some of whom are still getting trained?

The only one I know for sure is getting trained is Leopold. I suspect Sewell is still getting training. None of the others are being trained AFAIK.

Jeez, you wouldn't even send me his player data when he was at very good form, and that was several seasons ago!

I had an add in Transfers Canada listing Biron's skills for most of your term as manager. I'm sorry if I failed to respond to a msg, but the skills were readily available.

I looked your game and I was having a deja vu - if you look at NZ vs Wales game, then you`ll notice similarities. Favourites were having problems scoring a goal, meanwhile opponent had few extremely good scoring chances.

I meet Albania next week - seems tough opponent.

We were fortunate to be up against a weaker opponent today, as it was a very flat performance from our side. As a group, the decision making was very poor (specifically, there was a great deal of running at defenders when a pass would have been a much better call). The passing wasn't sharp, and the receiving even worse.

Broussard was very frustrating, as I felt he passed up many shooting situations just to give the ball away. Biron's lackluster form was evident, as he had a great deal of difficulty receiving passes. Foster looked like he had no PM at all, and neither of Lemieux or Caron was particularly accurate with their passing.

I'd wager we broke twice as many tackles in the Finland game as this one. Didn't draw a single foul. Some of this was my striker positioning, which was less then ideal in a number of places. Some of this was just an off day.

Surrendered some good chances to score too - Madden was one of the few who came to play.

All in all, a disappointing day. But still a win. You always get a match or two like this during qualifying. Hopefully we'll be sharper again next week.

I had watched the NZ - Wales match this morning. The matches did have a very similar feel. Both teams had some bad luck in that one - Wales with the early red card, NZ with some very poor finishing.

TBH, I think the Albanian defense over-achieved to a certain degree today. They were nearly flawless with their tackling. I wouldn't expect them to maintain that level of play, especially against the strikers NZ can throw at them.
