Seca [del] to All
Whee!

GO! Canada GO!

First (and all) matches are pretty tough. Turkey is a big (huge) Sokker nation that has been on the ascendancy for several seasons. Add in that they have (IMO) one of the better tactical managers around, and it makes for a pretty tough match this weekend. Canada pretty much needs a win to go on, but even a draw would be a pretty good result.

Canada is going to be a little hampered by form. Iconic Amado is a little off ... as is his understudy Biron. Parker is also not in the best of shape. Otherwise not too bad.

Amado form has been pretty lame as of late :/ Hasn't helped the NT squad or mine for that matter.

Yes this upcoming game against Türkiye is gonna be a tough one. Not sure we can pull out a win but a tie would certainly be sweet. Good luck Laufer :)

Fichaud's form has been terrible of late and he will now participate in tomorrow's match as well. Biron, Amado, Wang and even Manohar are all out of form. Giacomi is in magical form, and Broussard in brilliant so I have a choice to make who to put alongside Lav up front.....Other than that like Seca said form is not troubling us, neither are the injuries.....It's gonna be a very tough maych, I prepared sth a little different as far as tactics go, hopefully it will work. So Gents grab a beer and enjoy the match tomorrow :)

I hope Wyn can be a valuable player.
I don't have the best feeling about it though.
For my training plans the WC comes one season too early.
Next season he would be a weapon.

Good luck

We should have 2 great weapons next world cup....Biron and Wyn :)))

We beat Turkey 3:1 !!!!!!

Great match by our boys, if Lav had a better technique the score could've been higher in my opinion. I will reflect more on the game later 'cause I'm in a hurry

Congratulations! That is an excellent result. :D Well done!

Canada's tactic was very strong. There was one offensive throw-in I didn't like, but otherwise top drawer.

It's been a while since I've seen the skills of Iginla and Caron (so I could be way off here), but I'd be tempted to play them the other way. Of the two, Caron's better technique makes him more effective wide, while Iginla's better tackling and PM may be more useful inside. Again, I'm way out of date and could be wrong about their present skills.

The Turkish goal was my fault. :) I gave some advice a few weeks back about trying a MID order on fullbacks in stretch tactics. On the first goal Holden, armed with his MID order, gleefully dribbled away inside his final third when he should have been clearing the ball. Directly led to the goal. :( The order worked quite well the rest of the match ... Holden did break a number of tackles and both Holden and Dehere were probably a little smarter with the ball then the would have been otherwise.

Both strikers did their job. Broussard was a headache to the Turkish defense, and generated some real nice chances (didn't have much luck beating Genc). Lavrynenko didn't generate a lot of chances, but took the opportunities he had very well.

Turkey had a bit of a nice run in the first half, but Madden made a few nice saves. As the match wore on I thought Canada really asserted their will on the match. A well deserved win.

Best of luck in the coming two weeks. Sneaking a win in either would guarantee advancement. :)

Nice win for Canada!
I saw a good match from our strikers.
Stealing the ball from the defender to score a goal is the maximum penalty and both of our strikers did this today! :)
Very nice to watch was the volley goal from Wyn, great passing there and a solid shot.

The two center midfielders should not play directly behind each other imho.
Either diagonal or next to each other.

Canada's second goal was the nicest of the match, and one of the best goals I saw today.

The two center midfielders should not play directly behind each other imho.
Either diagonal or next to each other.

I've commented on this several times. One would seem to get much better coverage of the passing lanes with a non-linear set-up. But the Coach seems very comfortable with this approach, and it has worked fairly well. Turkey didn't achieve many through-balls today - the defenders stepped up well.

(I do think it is good the "Conga line" seems to be put to rest :D).

Great win laufer, congratulations!
You seem to have done an excellent job of choosing players in magical and divine form and at this level that may be the most important thing. The one goal conceded looks to me to have been because of Zanardi being out of position due to his weak tactical discipline - having just been traded to a new owner...another thing to watch for. But, I have to say that since you have been NT manager that you have been a great student of the game and picked up lots of great tricks. You have improved so much that it has become a "turkey shoot" for you. (ha ha ha)

Congrats laufer, great game.

Holden's kaput for the next two weeks. :S

GL to Laufer et al against Romania today. Can punch our ticket for the next round. :) Romania is a bit of an historic opponent for Canada. Played our first NT match against them, got our first NT win against them (not the same game :P). Qualification for the first WC opened against them - a stunning 3-0 win for Canada in Deja's first match at the helm.

They are very tough, with lots of depth. Canada is a clear underdog today.

Turkey - Czech Republic *Spoiler*

Quite the game in the other group match. Turkey played a high risk tactic, and it worked beautifully. Means the group is wide open.

Tough match. The defense did not look very sharp, perhaps due to the absence of some of the top defenders. Couple of the goals were (as I recall) 50-50 headers that were lost. Hate scoring and conceding those ones. :( A little better luck and the margin would have been significantly closer.

I was hoping Canada would use some kind of 541 tactic. The 532 (really a 523) has been successful, but stronger teams are better able to take advantage of all that empty space in midfield. Romania did so today. Sacrificing a striker for another defensive mid would go a long way towards blocking up some of those passing lanes.

I found it curious Zanardi (divine form) was on the bench. It's seemed to me he's been one of the favourites over the past season.

I didn't like the MID order on the fullbacks in this match. It's a nice way to get a little more offense out of a stretch formation, but it's only safe to do that when you're defenders have enough tech to break a tackle or two. Romania is just too strong for Dehere and Malhotra to try their luck. Dehere got caught a number of times.

Madden didn't really do much to help out. The strikers never really got much service. Caron looked good wide before the knock. Iginla was a little too tight to his marker and had trouble getting much done.

Good try. Still have hope, though the big minus means a draw won't be any good next week.

Good luck tomorrow

Thanx. I have to try sth a little different this time. A win gets us through :))
