Yesterday was the final day of qualifying.

Algeria, Portugal, France and Greece are through, among others. (New Zealand)

The Irish are out. Thierry Henry handled the ball right beside the goal and set up the winning goal in extra time. The story is being debated live and in detail today on BBC. To my mind there is absolutely no doubt that video replay needs to be brought in by FIFA and that video should be used to assist linesmen, as well. Referees can not cope with the modern game and it has been making a joke of soccer for some time now.

oops, I meant to post this in Freestyle Canada

I believe if they find this kind of cheating in matches of great importance (like the fifa world cup playoffs) they should replay the match and in this case suspend Thierry Henry.

And i'm not sure why they don't go to penalties, the goal away rule should not justify winning as it's still a tie.

Also controversially was the seeding of the fifa playoffs, it gave an unfair advantage to the stronger teams. And yes some would argue, the quality of the world cup would improve but it's the story of teams like Turkey (in 2008 euro cup) that really make the game that much better.

Well the game did not go to penalties because France won 1-0 in Ireland on Saturday and the game on Wednesday (1-1) was the second leg of the two game contest.
I dont agree with replaying games for refereeing mistakes. The list of replays would be endless! Lets help the referees get the calls right in the first place.

i understood that it was a two leg game contest but i'm just saying I don't like it, there is no clear winner in a 1-1 draw.

i don't think video-replay will help much because it's still the ref who makes the final decisions, and the thing about ref is some are corrupt- soccer was corrupt, is corrupt and will be corrupt; it's the human element to the game.

as for the france ireland game it's after the fact, there's not going to be a replay because accroding to Fifa it's part of the "Law of the Game" that the referee's decisions are final.
