I remember that game a little better now. Our strikers should have been a little further upfield. Not perfect. We did manage to outshoot them, even tho we only had 2 middies, so I don't think the forward positioning was terrible.

The those two tackles by Harper summarize things pretty well for me. These tackles were against our best technical player. And twice he took the ball cleanly from behind. That suggests a significant skill differential.

I'm not saying we couldn't beat a team like England. But it would take a great deal of good fortune to accomplish it.

I wasn't meaning to critisize at all Seca :D, I was just telling him that our tactic was off as well. They expected our 'mantis' formation with the leading wing attack, we expected the treehouse tactic with a less passive defence.

In the end, we still signifigantly outperformed the US (both games) and Germany, who are both hovering around #10, which was my point. The fact that we were still able to generate 7 or 8 quality chances against defenders like Close, shows that we are as good or better than those teams.

I don't think that it would take a great deal of luck, we were quite unlucky not to win that game.

Tackling from behind in the penalty area once the player is "clear" is almost always called for a penalty shot IRL, thus my "boot of god" comment.

Didn't mean to seem defensive. Too many soccer moms looking over my shoulder over the years has scarred me. :D

:lmao:

Close isn't the best English defender though :P.

Roland Nugent 1315689 is up for sale.

He is a pretty good U20 forward prospect. At 19 I'm fully confident he will go to a team that will train him, but some Canadian teams may still want to take a look.

Friendly arranged with France for July 1st.

Awesome, Canada Day, my birthday and against my favorite National side, other than Canada of course, which is sort of like being a Canucks fan... always need a backup!

Too bad there will no Zidane, Henry, Makele, Viera or Saha... or maybe that is a good thing!

looks like some of the teams ahead of us are doing us some favours too

Eesti - US
France - Czech Republic

those will be tough games for both of them which will help, there is a big gap to make up for us to get into the teens

Brazil has a gimme vs. Uruguay though

There is an 18 yr old Incredible defender on the TL right now. He has NT potential (would require some improvement of his secondaries).

Charles-Antoine Holden 1524803

Hard to believe I sold him out of my academy for $100

Didn't get a thread going this week about the France game. Felt we controlled much of the play, but had difficulty getting the shots away. Would have been nice to get a result on Canada day. :)

The recent change regarding NT players (that they canot be sacked, and are released if a team is replaced) is potentially a great benefit for us. If you notice one of your series-mates heading towards inactivity that might have some NT potential on his/her roster, please let me know.

Too bad, they were one of the best teams and always made deep cup runs.
