It was a bit of a mixed week form-wise. Dehere was a notable "sinker", Iginla a notable "riser".

Renda up to very good. Almost playable - especially given the form of many midfield contemporaries (O Lav, Caron, Klukowksi).

A couple of interesting results from friendlies this past weekend.

Greece, our opponent this weekend, registered what appears to be a pretty wacky win over the Swiss (I haven't watched it yet - just looking at the stats). Anomalies don't seem to be all that anomalous this season. :/ Hopefully Greece doesn't have it in them two weeks in a row.

Lithuania put a good portion of their A-squad at risk when they played Poland. Fortunately, they all came through ok.

Other Cochran (Adrian) is now out too - 3 week-er. He wasn't likely to see any action anyway.

Hi all together!

I want to sell my striker Luis Giacomi. He poped in technique and pace still he is in my team.

Is somebody interessed?
2008-01-14 17:02:18
Independent of form, Giacomi is probably #3 on the striker depth chart, with Lavrynenko and Biron nipping at his heals. This past season was probably his last chance to contribute, and it was scuttled by form. :S

No good news in the form department today. Dehere continued his decline - he's blown off 8 levels of form over the past 3 updates. :(

So if Canada wins next one and lose against Lietuva like Austria will lose in their next one and if they draw against BIH, Canada will be second in the group right?? It is possible, they draw once and they might even lose this time GO BIH :) Bosnia is our hope, they beat us so now they can save us.

Anyway if we don't qualifie for the WC whats the plan next season with NT? Is there gonna be U-21 or COPA AMERICA whatewer they call it?

You have a solid grasp on the situation. :) So long as we maintain the goal differential advantage on Austria (a nice win against Greece would be great), then there are a couple of scenarios that would see Canada through.

As for next season, if Canada fails to qualify there will likely be a new manager, and they would choose the direction. But as I see it there would be two main tasks:

- repairing the damage to Canada's ranking suffered this season. Specifically, trying to gain enough spots to be a 2nd seed again for the next qualifying round

- grooming the "next" group of players. Anyone 25 or older is close to their ceiling (if they haven't hit it already). Without a WC, focus should be set on players who can, with the help of the NT training bonus, surpass our current core. By the time the next qualifying comes around, some of our old warhorses will likely have been taken around behind the barn ... if you know what I mean. :)

As for U21, with the start of each new season I am hopeful that it will be the one an official U21 structure is unveiled. I have no reason to believe this next season will be the one, but if it were, that would certainly influence the direction of the senior team.

Most of the manager arranged tournaments (like the unofficial U21 or the Copa) begin after the WC (or at least part way through). One that sometimes runs while the WC is on is the "Mini World Cup" composed of teams that didn't qualify for the actual WC. Canada would have a field day in that competition. :)

But like you, I'm trying to stay positive about this season. Canada has had unbelievably bad luck to this point in qualifying - we're bound to get a few good breaks the final two weeks. :D

No player requests in this thread please.

Keep an eye here and in the Canada Transfers forum if you have an interest in the NT.

Only little information:

Nationalstriker

Luis Giacomi

is now on the transferlist!

Ok sorry, but I was about NT so... :) But ok.
2008-01-16 19:48:05
I understand. But if every manager who wanted an NT player were allowed to post here, the thread would quickly lose it's purpose. :)

*Sigh*

For some reason, Parker was playing in a meaningless friendly for his club and took a two week knock. Out this week. Questionable for Lithuania.

Parker continues to find new and interesting ways to let his team down. :S

Some more luck on the Canada NT.

As for next season, if Canada fails to qualify there will likely be a new manager

So it means you won't run if Canada fails to qualify?
2008-01-17 03:05:33
If Canada fails to qualify, my instinct is the team would be best served by getting the new manager in and comfortable for the next round of qualifying.

My present plans are to step down should the team not progress. But I'm optimistic things will still work out (tho the Parker injury isn't a good sign.) :D
