(BTW - I think there is something to be said for putting the technique on a striker last - for the simple reason that it reduces the number of injuries the striker sustains in his career. It means the striker isn't as useful early on, but in the end, probably climbs a little higher in the skill spectrum.)

Exactly my philosophy.
It's not only limited to strikers, but to about every position you train.
I haven't had any injuries on my midfield trainees with technique below outstanding.
First I trained their pace to avoid getting tackled from behind too often, then I trained about 20 weeks passing and 6 weeks playmaker.
Now they should be ready for technique training, hopefully.

@Lavrynenko
That's the problem, he is already divine since more than 3 seasons, so no need to train him anymore he will get to the maximum from general training.
I have a magical head coach and 3 magical assistants, as long as he doesn't get injuried he should progress nicely.
I have had problems with my striker trainees getting long term injuried every 3 games in the past, I hope this has changed now!
But those strikers have been slower.

/edit
The main problem with training technique up is playmaking.
If playmaking is low and technique very high its like having a butt on your back "Please hurt me"

It's not nearly as big an issue as it used to be. Injuries are distributed more equitably in the current ME then in some of the older ones.

It still makes some sense to train the tech last. The reason why I don't t is because the player is (IMO) far less effective, and I want my players to be able to help the NT throughout their career, not just at the apex.

For example, Strike + Tech + Pace is the same for both Biron and Lavrynenko, but there's (IMO) no comparison to what they bring to the pitch. Lavrynenko needs a perfect pass in order to get a shot away while Biron is able to create a lot of his own chances.

Might be different if we had a devastating winger on the NT. Then Lavrynenko could just park in front of the net. Caron is on his way to being that winger - tho by the time he's devastating Lavrynenko's tech should be more intimidating.

Then Lavrynenko could just park in front of the net

That's how I want to use him :)
For NT more technique is needed of course so you have to train all skills equally.

10minutes before my match.
I hope he plays well and doesn't get injuried in his first game for my team....
I don't think that the injury issue is better now, though.

No injury and my todays match winner!
Scored 72% playing 90minutes as MID and made 6 goals out of 10 shots.
Very nice second goal!
Shot from about 30 metres into the top left corner.
No chance for the keeper there!
I love this new dude.

btw, playing with a slight injuried goalkeeper sucks!
I also say byebye now, enough spam here.
Lavry had a great start into my team!

Glad he got off to a good start. That rate of conversion is significantly higher then what he's mustered for Canada. :)

By contrast, Scottie Wang (who also has great striker skill) was 0 for 13 today. His team out-shot their opponent 24-1, but just squeaked out a 2-1 on the strength of an own goal. Wacky. :)

In other news, Amado is going parka shopping as he'll be moving from Ontario to Nunavut. Raskal has ensured Amado will remain a pain in the butt to CPL teams, though now wearing a different colour of shirt.

The selling price was in the expected range. New Zealand strikers Bodger and Hird, whom I felt were comparables (tho built a little differently), sold in this range last season.

The draw for the U21 World Cup did not go so well. :P Somehow all of North America fell out of the hat together.

Group H
Mexico
USA
Canada
Malaysia

A pretty tough group from our perspective. Mexico and USA have very strong U21 teams - they are the clear favourites - those matches may not be pretty. :P Malaysia has a very weak National team, but some pretty decent U21 players.

It looks like we get Malaysia first. They are a little banged up - their top keeper will out be, one of their strikers SI and one of their better mids is suspended. Good week to play them. :)

Lane Mauro, NT midfielder with 5 caps, is transfer listed.
2008-04-03 14:29:26
That's one of the best Canada has??
2008-04-03 17:04:17
I dont think so since he only has 5 caps ;)

Dustin Easingwood is on the TL. Has U21 NT potential at striker, tho likely not until he's 21 (given where some of our 20 year olds are).

Not a lot to note form-wise this week. Metra dropped some.

Of note, Giacomi reached divine form this week. His form started rising after Canada was eliminated from the World Cup. It had been ~tragic for 2-3 seasons.

*Snicker*

Those with a moment might want to check out the Spanish NT's roster. Last I checked, they were up to 5586 players. :)

The Spanish NT manager had dropped all senior players for the duration of the U21 tournament. Never understood why NT managers do this. Anyhow, one of their prominent players was immediately sacked. Since he was not on the NT at that moment, he was not preserved and has been lost. The 5.6k roster seems to be a reflex.

Haha, that is a laugh. And an insight into one of the sillier rules of the game.

As i understand some Polish guy that was quitting the game bought him for 10 mil and than sacked him lol!!!
