When playing with a single striker you would need all the striker skillpoints you can get.
That's why I was wondering ;)

This is only true if all your striker is expected to do is sit in the 6 yard box all match long and wait for crosses. Caron and Iginla are nice players, but aren't quite good enough (against opponents like Mexico) to be the sole source of offense.

Striker is a threshold skill. In any given situation a player with a little less striker skill may perform just as well. The added skill just improves one's draw-roll a little. (And when form enters into the equation, it becomes a little murkier). Take today's match against Uruguay. W Lav and Caron each took one long shot, otherwise all these chances were pretty comparable.

Broussard 2/3 (67%)
Caron 1/4 (25%)
W Lav 2/9 (22%)

Pace, tackling, tech are confrontational skills. They are directly measured against an opponent's skill. It's pretty rare for a player with poorer confrontational skills to play to the same level (it implies the opponent is weak, which Mexico is not).

I've always put an emphasis on confrontational skills - both with NT player selection and with my training. But I suppose this could be one of those striker trainer - midfield trainer differences of opinion. :)

There are a number of young-ish (22-23) players on the TL right now with strong tackling skills. Almost all of them need work in the pace department. If anyone is training pace and has an opening, they may want to take a look. Might be a diamond in the rough somewhere in there. :)

I'd love to but I just blew my budget )-: Any other pace guys?

Well, the percentage is a different story.
The more chances you have the lower your percentage might be.
You won't score 8 out of 10 but you might score 4 out of 5 on a good day.
If you really want to have a point try to collect goals Broussard made against good opponents because of his defending skill ;)
I would be interested!

/edit
Ruben + Wyn scored me 7 goals today ;)

both players are great and have their uses

Wyn's shooting may not be as good just because the tactic that I was using was geared towards a different game than his

until I am more comfortable our defensive midfields ability to create useful through-balls against the good opponents it is likely that Brous will continue to start those games

our last game was a good start, now I know they can do it against opponents in our skill range

that said, W Lav is slower than three other very good Canadian strikers, so he really needs to be in top form

Lav will pop to unearthly pace this week.
I decided to train him to double unearthly(+extra pace trainings)/superdivine if he does not get a longer injury.
This should hopefully make him more useful for Canada.
Is someone working on top-mids?

I am a bit worried about our domestic training situation, especially for mids

Our top two mid training clubs are in danger, is seems that Black & Oil has been abandoned, and DB seems to be losing interest. Mostly I am worried about defenders though, as none of the top clubs are training them right now.

I am planning to switch back to defender training in 2-3 seasons, but that is a ways off.

I see.
The same problem we have in Austria + no top striker.

I will also switch to defender training in 2-3 seasons.
Maybe I can get another Canadian for that training :)

If you and the other Canadian managers don't mind I would like you (that have all the information of the players) to advice the training of the players and to compare and tell what they can train.
We can use the private forum for that.

I am more worry about loosing good youth schools because the youths can always be train abroad but we need good pulls.

Can you tell me of my players in the NT (Fluet and Maillet) if they have opportunity?
2009-02-09 02:24:14
There have been some changes to the roster. I am not sure all of who is in and out, but it is based more on the NTDB roster, which is based on the minimum requirements that I set. My goal was to set them as close to what would allow for the top 40 non U-21 players and for a full U-23 roster. One thing that I noticed is that this has lead to a disproportionate addition of players from my club, they met the requirements so they have been added, if more players emerge the requirements will go up and players will get dropped. Vafir may stay for a while, he is the only player with decent mid stats and a big league shot, he may spell off Caron late in games for his finish. So add your players to the DB, you never know!

I am hoping that by the end of this season the pace requirement for all positions will be magical+, this is what we need to have continue to be a top 32 team, so be expecting that as I work on the roster this season in preperation for the WC.

I updated all my MIDs players even the ones I think has no possibility. I would like to know if Metra and Bauman has any possibility.

Charles-Antoine Holden is on the list.
Maybe another Canadian for my team :)
2009-03-07 17:37:16
lineup for todays U-26!?! game is set, I wanted U-23 so we had to compromise a bit lol

protecting a lot of your players for next week, lots of little injuries to players I would prefer to have used so its a chance for some of the fringe depth guys and late bloomers to have a go

should be laugher, and likely not for us :(
2009-03-07 17:46:45
Good luck
2009-03-07 18:27:00
Ouch, they outplayed us in every aspect of the game. Good try Deja.
2009-03-07 18:38:44
look at the player marks, their team was far better, so I am actually pleased with the result considering that I couldn't play Lemieux, Ferranti or Biron and some of our better young stars, Verville and Sebrango and Madden all had to sit for next weeks match. Our wingbacks were not up to the task, all of the Scotland shots came off of crosses. I meant to put Sewell couldn't get the last minute change in. McFarlane was a monster for them today, and the midfield refused to put the ball in behind the defence. Not a bad result considering.

I wish Vafir would do that for me a bit more often, he certainly has the skill to be a mid who can score from range more often.
