Subject: [U21] Deja

Hey all,

I am running for U-21 coach! I feel that I am well suited for the postion. Under my guidance the team will play a strong defensive positional game with strong support on the ball, and a short passes game as they move to the attack.

I think that my success with my jr`s team shows that my successes in this game have mostly come from the quality of my tactics rather than having the best players.

I have also been a very good trainer for Canada and have managed to train players for all positions for the U-21 side through my career to date. I think that this will also help me to guide other Canadian mangers in getting the most out of their youngsters.

This is a long term commitment to the U-21, as my goal is to run the team for the next three seasons.

Season one will focus of raising the teams ranking in preperation for qualifications. I intend to do this by playing a very young group of players against weaker nations. These players will be the core of the eventual group that will play in the WC.

Season two will focus on winning our first qualification at this level.

Season three will focus on getting out of the group phase.

When I ran last time I said that this was a three year plan, so I feel that I should follow that up

while I was not able to raise Canada`s ranking, we are in the exact position that we were at the start of the season, I don`t feel that it wasn`t because of poor play, but rather some poor luck.

looks lucky, but they were unable to penetrate the danger zones, I don`t think they tested the keeper at all, this was a great start :)

stunner, last minute reschedule because of Hayastan breaking our agreement, didn`t study the opponent before agreeing to u-20, and we got killed by a prodigal striker, thems the breaks but this really hurt our ranking

again controlled the game, this time beaten by a suprise wing attack, still could have been the opposite score with some luck as we did outshoot them and keep the ball at thier end of the field quite well, this one killed any gains that we might have been able to make, I think we lost nearly 100 ranking points :(

I have no idea how we couldn`t win this game.... but it happens

The record doesn`t look great outside of the context of a difficult schedule that we played and the number of U-20 games that we played, but if you look at the play in half stats and shots you can also see that we deserved better than we got, and actually showed quite well against several teams that will be in the top two buckets, so we have some chances.

I have plans to address the lack of finish, as Dehere is quite capable to play up front. There isn`t a lot of depth behind him that can really finish plays, so a lot will ride on him and Mita to carry this team into the World Cup, but I believe it can be done :)

I have also set up the NTDB, which has brought several players to light that were previously unknown, solli has been very helpful in adding good young players to the database, though it would help if some managers updated a bit more often :)

A very detailed and complete review of the u-21 season. (although there was also a missed week, that you apologised for at the time) Thank you Deja. It is great that you are following the team so closely.
Do you prefer attacking or defensive midfielders?

yes the missed week was because of Hayastan, who bailed out of both matches we had scheduled, which he made matches against bottom feeder teams rather than face us, he did this to other nations too

as for mids, most of my tactics use a trap where the defensive middies and wingbacks position themselves to catch any clearances and return them upfield

so in that sense I prefer defensive mids because they allow me to keep the play in the opponents half

but who doesn`t like a middie who can pot the odd goal as well

as for wingers, well, barring a suprising player update we have no one to fill that role, though I may use other players out there to suprise an opponent if it looks like a good strategy, but for now there is no one with the requisite skills on the horizon

I have decided to withdraw my candidacy as some upcoming changes to my work schedule will not make is possible for me to dedicate enough time to do the job correctly
