Semi-finals are upon us! Look like two good matches.

Partizan 74 - Jalea of Scarberia

Last 5 meetings:
JoS 2 -:- P74 1
JoS 0 -:- P74 2
P74 1 -:- JoS 2
JoS 0 -:- P74 2
P74 1 -:- JoS 2

(Anyone else notice a pattern? :) 2-0 Partizan might be a good prediction tongiht.)

Partizan 74
Notables:
Thibaut Blondel - out: injury
Seweryn Siadaczka - doubtful: injury

Form: crazy good. “Outstanding” the worst for a regular starter.

Players Interest
Andrzej Szandarowski - has been a nice acquisition and will help mitigate the absence of Blondel, as they seem to be cut from the same cloth.
Bartosz Tekiela - had a rough first match for Partizan 74, but has been pretty solid since.

Jalea of Scarberia
Notables:
Junior Gregor - out: injury

Form: very good. Issa Bradshaw mid-range at “excellent”. The rest of the usual starters “outstanding” or better.

Players of Interest

Pierre-Charles Ribeiro - has really been a spark plug for the Scarberian offence.
Nae Hrebenciuc - has become quite threatening the past few seasons, but tends to disappear against Partizan 74.

Valiant FC - DB Rovers

Last 5 meetings:
DBR 3 -:- VFC 4
VFC 7 -:- DBR 1
DBR 0 -:- VFC 1
VFC 2 -:- DBR 3
DBR 0 -:- VFC 4

Valiant FC
Notables:
Joey Biron - probable: SI
Jakub Glowacki - out: suspension

Form: decent. Several laggards including Andruszko - “hopeless”, Neto - “solid”, Szoltysik - “average”, and Wandzik - “good”.

Players Interest
Danny Ayre - having a slow season by his standards. In strong form and looking to break out.
Scottie Wang - with Amado on the bench, Wang will need to take control.

DB Rovers
Notables:
Lorenzo Arbonnier - probable: SI
Olaf Lavrynenko - out: injury
Graham LeBlanc - out: suspension
Kip Nesta - out: suspension

Form: decent. Again, several laggards including Betka - “tragic”, Canizalez - “average”, Krech - “unsatisfactory”.

Players of Interest
Hubert Surman - Rovers’ top defensive player is likely to have more to do given Lavrynenko’s absence.
Lane Mauro - may also have a greater role to play. Has a history of foul trouble against Valiant - will need to stay on the ref’s good side.

Looks like Rovers decided to concentrate more on training then a result - don't really blame them considering the players that were unavailable. Biron looked good in his return to the line-up.

Only watched the first half of Partizan 74 - Jalea of Scarberia. Minute 1 knock to Tousignant a little disappointing for the visitors considering Gregor was already out injured. Very solid effort from Partizan 74, and a very sharp peformance by bright young Boissieres.

nice previews seca

my team played well today, bit lucky with a mistake on a substitution order, but the kids showed up

funny, my team seems to be echoing the scores in recent Canucks games, not sure what that is all about!

P74 1 -:- VFC 3
VFC 1 -:- P74 2

Overall Head-to-Head Record

VFC 4 wins
7 draws

Head to Head in the Cup
P74 3 wins
VFC 1 win

Record in Cup Finals
P74 2-2
VFC 3-0

Roster Notes

Partizan 74

Notables
Thibaut Blondel – doubtful (SI)
Seweryn Siadaczka – questionable (SI)

Form
- none

Player of Interest
With Blondel still out, Andrzej Szandarowski is more important factor and a key catalyst of the Partizan 74 attack.

Valiant FC

Notables
Joey Biron – questionable (SI)

Form
Wiktor Andruzsko (tragic)
Victorino Neto (good)
Mścisław Szołtysik (weak)
Joachim Wandzik (adequate)

Players of Interest
It’s hard not to say Amado, especially since he’s been struggling a bit lately. But there is a very strong correlation between Danny Ayre’s play, and Valiant FC success against Partizan 74.

Other Notes

- 6 red cards in the last 7 meetings
- A low scoring match seems to favour Partizan 74. If total goals is 3 or less, Partizan has a very good record. If the game becomes a shooting match (4 or more goals scored) Valiant FC tends to gain the upper hand.
- Valiant FC was not able to hold their top trainees out of league play. So look for Giuliano Parise and Alvin Broussard to be in the starting line-up, with Wang and Amado appearing later in the match.

The fans have been lined up all day in the drizzling rain, and everyone is expecting a full house in spite of the weather. This is the first time that these two teams have met in the final. There is plenty of excitement, and an expectation of a spirited affair in the first home game in the newly expanded 46,000 seat Royal Athletic Park.

"This isn't a game where you want to do anything that might disadvantage your team, but the possibility of something ugly happening when these teams meet always seems to be pretty high," said Partizan captain Sebastian Fichaud, referring to both cards and some nasty injuries that have plagued matches between these teams for several seasons. "It should get interesting, that pitch looks like Burns Bog from here."

Speculation has also centered around whether or not Thibault Blondel, who himself has taken 3 knocks in just 7 games against Valiant, will make an appearance when he was seen at the teams pre-game sessions in his warm-up suit. The presence of Blondel, who has been out for several weeks with a strained somethingerother tendon would be a huge boost to the offence of the team, but if he is not healed enough he may not be all that effective. "I'm not going to talk about my roster before I submit it, frankly because I am not really sure, there are a lot of considerations." was the closest thing to an answer that could be gotten out of team manager Deja as he paced incessantly around the concourse at the stadium.

Valiant FC is also expected to debut veteran Ireland international Derek Freyne, who has appeared in an incredible 71 games for his homeland. In a much lesser move Partizan re-aquired the rights to midfielder Ive Laforest, an original member of the club and a member of the teams first Voyageur Cup winning team, as a good luck charm.

The team also named striker Rico Kasim as their inaugural player of the month for November. Playing mostly in half games, he still paced the team in both cup and league matches by scoring 15 goals in 8 appearances for a team that often struggles to find the finish.

Nice pre-game. :)

Yeah, we bought a bit of form today in Freyne - he's expected to take Andruzsko's position in the line-up. Andruzsko's the better player (IMO), but his form of late has crippled him.

Should be an interesting match. :) I'm hoping it's still close when Wang and Amado make their appearances. My substitution orders are a real house of cards. Wouldn't take much to turn the game plan to shambles.

Congrats to Seca!

Not sure what else I could have done, we shut Ayre down and put three NT level defenders in the middle of the pitch and Amado just walked right through them, heck Parise almost went right through them. Would have thought that two reds on the same side of the field would have opened things up for us a bit, but nothing came of it. Not surprisingly Kasim had the best chance, too bad no-one went to the net. Blondel was next to useless.

At least we are still hanging in the league.

Upon seeing the defensive lineups, of Partizan especially, it looked like it was going to be a 0-0 draw. Then, out of nothing, Valiant's new player was ejected in the ninth minute and the game began to come to life. The game really wasnt a good example for some of the newer sokker teams, with red cards and vicious tackling. After Wang came on Valiant scored and looked to be taking control of the play. Then, at halftime, when Amado came on, it was game over. Amado did walk through the nt players Fichaud and Villaneuva. Did I hear, or did my ears decieve me, that Amado will be on the transfer list next season?
2007-12-06 02:17:04
Thanks. :)

I kind of suspected you might play 5 at the back. I dropped Ayre back because of that hoping he would participate more in the build up (as opposed to making the killer cross). Was happy with how it worked.

I'm a little surprised Partizan 74 wasn't able to make more of the man advantage. If your front had been a little wider it may have been better able to exploit the missing defender. Szołtysik played flawlessly after being left on his own, which was a big part of it.

I'm not sure about pinching the center defender. Amado found a nice channel down the middle of the park. (Amado looked much better then in his other recent outings).

Is Freyne the worst purchase ever? I overpaid for a player whom I only intended to use once, and he got sent off in minute 9. Andruzsko could have done that. :P
2007-12-06 02:20:19
Nice summary. :) I do plan to move Amado next season. Biron deserves a starting role. Wang may be moved next season too if I can find a pace trainer for him.
2007-12-06 04:27:20
Congrats Seca, looks like I have something to write about =]
2007-12-06 05:29:31
Waow can I have your horseshoes for my next match please Seca? So much for Amado having an off match. I must say I'm quite surprised with the result. I thought for sure things where going to be a little tighter then what panned out. Especially with the five players at the back end for Partizan.

Maybe you should have sat Blondel Deja, he really wasn't that effective. Perhaps the injury did contribute to his poor performance?

As for Wang.....Hmmmm having him playing along side Hiacynt wouldn't be too bad for us hares :D
2007-12-06 18:31:52
Heehee. You want my horseshoes when I had two men sent off and another injured? They are all yours. :D

Wang has a "no-lagomorph" clause in his contract. Most Valiant players do after the Hiacynt sale. ;)

JK. When he goes the most important thing will be that he gets a season or two of pace training. Would be great if that were in Canada.

I guess that there is some consolation in the fact that I set the record for average match rating, 56.2 I think
