Another game, another win. Nice work, probably a bit unlucky not to have won by 1-2 more with some of the chances missed.

Yeah, Hitting the woodwork twice before we scored didn't help.

I've talked a bit more (not much) in the association.
The mini world cup kicked off today and due to our walkover we sit at the top of our group on 3 points and a gd of +5

The other match in our group was an interesting affair with Portugal just edging Costa Rica 4-3.

Costa Rica up next for us and going by what I just watched it could be a tight 90 minutes. Hopefully we'll come through it with the points and that should be enough to take us in to the ko stages.
thank you for a match :). I wish you good luck and have a nice day ...
We play Costa Rica on Saturday in our first mini wc action of the season. After last weeks walkover a win on Saturday would see both us and Portugal progress to the ko stages despite having to face each other next week.

On paper we look to be stronger than Costa Rica but we just have to look to last weeks match v Portugal to see what kind of problems we could face.

There's a match preview in the Association for all those interested.

The match should kick off around 9am sk time on Saturday.

Ouch tough loss. Costa Rica have certainly improved since I use to take them on. In saying that 2 gripes, these are meant as constructive not destructive.

Firstly and probably most crucially, it appears like you drop our defense too deep in the bottom row of the tactic editor. Most users will recognise I picked TM for doing something similar. That has 2 consequences both resulting in goals conceded. 1 - it leaves clean space in the penalty box for those that drop their strikers back 1 drag. 2 - it allows a striker the opportunity to move right into the keeper thus whenever a cross gets hit if it hits the head its almost always a goal due to being so close. That's really my first gripe, think 2 or 3 of their goals came from that today.

Secondly, I thought our strikers didn't really move forward far enough, quickly enough when we got down the wing. The box was open and none of our strikers were there. That's got nothing to do with pace, because all our strikers have it :p.

There's a few other smaller things, such as having the DMs a long way apart from the back 4, which opens up issues for through balls, but that didn't eventuate too often.

Otherwise it's just down to poor conversion from the chances we had as per usual. I might add Stephenson,Storey and Maras = disaster for penalty taking, at least that's what I always found (I'm convinced there's something other than just random involved with that). Was one of the reasons Byers often made my team purely cause he could convert reasonably successfully.

Just means we need to look at beating Portugal by 2 goals minimum next week to progress on the assumption CR get a 5-0 walkover.

All taken constructively and agreed. The defencive throw issues I'll correct. The strikers were deliberately pulled back a touch to firstly counter offsides and to try to keep them on the edge of the box in some space to shoot. Never worked though and things were poor today, my fault.

Ah ok, I thought you might have forgotten to push them forward in the corner square of the tactic. In those cases what I'd do is push 1 forward and 1 on the box, that way you cover both cases, the case to counter offsides and the case where they aren't. :).

All that aside, 2 from 10 as opposed to them 4 from 7 is pretty harsh in my opinion and there are grounds to complain that we were treated harshly. Funnily enough I thought Gardiner at AM played quite well and yet that was the position I was most concerned about going into the game.

Yeah he done ok and I was glad he got an assist. The Beauchamp - Stephenson assist nearly came off aswell but Beau passed to Stewart who made the pass that ultimately led to the penalty.

Leijer was for me dissapointing given that his direct opponent suffered a slight injury early in the game, hopefully Willis will have a wee injection of form next week.

Over the two games CR have now scored 7 from 13.

thought Storey was pretty solid too until he was subbed off, then we seemed to stop generating problems for their defense. 2 from 3 was a pretty good return, Maras/Stephenson was 0 from 7.

Portugal should be beatable next week, still a tough game though.

Tough break. At 2-1 it should have been 3-1 & the game changes from there. I thought their wide guys also caused probs.

I thought their wide guys also caused probs.

Yeah, that was the biggest problem imo and my fault for overlooking and under estimating them.

@Cometer, that's interesting stats regs the strikers, In hindsight a condtitional order would have been better for Storey instead of a straight swap.

Hopefully we can get back to winning ways next week.

1º.Portugal - 6 Points - 9-3
2º.Australia - 3 Points - 7-4
3º.Costa Rica - 3 Points 7-6
4º.Việt Nam - 0 Points 0-10

Copied this from Mini WC forum - so next week Australia plays against Portugal and Costa Rica gets 5:0 win by default over Vietnam. So it seems for me that it will be extremely difficult to finish in top 2. Looks like a mission impossible, you need to score a lot, which seems unlikely to happen.

We need to beat Portugal by 2 goals or more. Difficult but not impossible :)

or hack into the Vietnam NT manager's account!!!
