Good come from behind win in the end. Was concerned when I noticed how short you played our strikers in comparison to NZ's defenders and they got the 1 goal cushion. Against better opposition I feel you need to get those strikers into better positions at the risk of getting offside because otherwise you'll get well beaten whenever a side drops their defense back.

Spin did well to surprise me with the defence falling very deep while NZ was attacking, might've turned really ugly for us. Still it's a win after a decent performance [though the 17:3 shots looks better than how it really looked on the field].
Anyway, Turkiye totally smashed Osterreich, mainly because of an early red card...still, both sides got sick ratings, both teams got 78+
will be hard to compete against them, but it's not impossible if we manage to keep Erdogan and Barnes in forms & clear of injuries. Our defenders aren't really top level [though some of them are developing nicely] but we have a decent depth in them so even though we have ~5 without form at the moment we can still form a back 5 + reserve guy all in forms.
Stathakis reached the first team level in perfect moment as Villafane and Puca lost their forms + are getting older.

Thanks! The game was very close, I still don't understand how their striker managed to dribble our defenders so easily...
Wow. what a result. the legend of borkos grows! :)
Well it's still just the beginning of the qualifications, so let's not get too carried away ;).
Although 2 draws/1 win in 3 remaining top games [1x Osterreich, 2x Turkiye] will give us the WC. Unless we lose points against other NTs...Turkiye almost lost points against Misr today.
Would be great to qualify though, since I never managed to achieve that with Australia :)

I seriously hope you bought yourself a lottery ticket today. I was far from impressed with the setup exposing a gigantic frailty at the back. There is absolutely no point pressing up if you don't get the support from the midfielders protecting the 60 yard through ball straight down the guts. We should have been buried by half time. A better placement of defensive midfielders and we would have prevented many of Osterreichs chances. Stewarts position was effectively useless until the sending off of their dm which gave Stewart much more freedom and allowed him to execute a few nice passes, otherwise useless.
To be blunt I do not know how on earth we managed to win that. The red card seemed to change the game and from then on I thought the tactic looked solid but beforehand we looked as if we wanted the showers. Elrich was unbelievable, even beyond laughing point.
Despite all the negativeness you did what was most important, the 3 points. Hats on your shoulders to ensure we don't fail to progress from here. 1 more draw should be sufficient and we get 3 chances. Congrats borkos, I know I've been critical but at the end of the day the scoreline is all that counts and maybe fortune smiled on us today for a change.
Feel a whole lot of sympathy for the Osterreich manager and community right now. I know how it feels, we've been there on several occasions. In saying that, I'm delighted to finally be on the other end of these results, we've rarely (if ever) had them.

Yup, luck was usually a harsh mistress for us...
As for the defensive setup - it worked entirely different from how it looks in the tactics, I don't know why exactly. Most of their chances though were due to the fact that their winger and striker easily dribbled our defenders, sometimes even 3 times in a row up front, which is ridiculous...
Elrich was amazing and Stewart was quite useless for most of the time, I must agree on that part.
I didn't want to set central mids to deep not to make a big hole between midfield and attack [happened once already a season ago] and I didn't want the mids to attack the strikers from behind - huge possibility of getting a red card.

Well, the 4:0 obviously won't be enough to compete with OSterreich/Turkiye in goal ratio.
At least we won.
That wasn't a tactic that suggested to me like you were trying for anything but a small win. In fact in many ways it was a tactic that said to me, I just don't want to lose.
6 at the back regularly, deep defense, 1 striker is what I'd consider very conservative given the team strength differences. I think you'd be hard pressed to consider that anything else but conservative, not that it's a bad thing, it's just not really what any of us suggested earlier in the week.
Anyway we got the 3pts this week, so that's really all that matters. NZ outscored us against Nicaragua, so I think that's something to put into perspective which somewhat justifies my point :)

True, NZ outscored us, but they made only 4 shots more. Finishing was a bit of an issue today...
anyway, we should've probably went out with a 442, considering their tactic even 352...

look at the report..the engine killed me after 25 minutes
i played almost 70 min with only a striker because of the 2 consecutive injuries on the same position
