Dream come true :)
2012-05-05 13:28:18
congrats borkos, you did the impossible :)
2012-05-05 13:30:22
Great work Borkos, fantastic win. Now you just need to take out our old foe NZ and we are through :)
2012-05-05 13:36:58
4/6 :D

Looks like an interesting tactic. I might have to watch.

Great result. It wasn't very different to what borkos has done all season, we just executed it better and Osterreich fluffed a few chances in front of the posts. The big difference I felt with this tactic is that we didn't resort to playing 9 in defense as matches against Turkey and were rewarded with some chances which we buried.

Great achievement borkos, I won't be celebrating fully until we beat NZ. I've seen too many occasions where we've seemingly been in the box seat and fell short in the final match day.

To get 2 wins against Austria though is basically priceless. Again felt we rode more than our fair share of luck but coming up against an 80+ rated side you're going to need every bit of it. Austria now under enormous pressure and one must expect a failed campaign here should see the end of their manager after a number of successful seasons. No doubt they'll be complaining about the unfairness of it but if you fail converting goals then you end up being penalised for it.

1 to go borkos. 1 to go :).

Solid!
One game to go...

Wow, amazing result....I'm stunned, wasn't expecting that at all!

6pts against Austria...almost got a draw against Turkiye [famous '70...] - that's a proper WC.Q campaign! ;)

Barnes did what he could, great finishing...but as you've mentioned, our situations were clear ones, without pressing from defenders.

Still, a lucky result, no doubt about that...but we finally got the luck when we really needed it.

Now it's time for NZ...I can't imagine not winning this one, not with our previous results and what we can lose if we fail...

I never managed to qualify to WC with Australia, so it's a dream come true for me if we win next week...

as you've mentioned, the tactical approach wasn't very different from previous games, I've decided that it's the only way we can attack - we had one proper striker in form [Huxley without form, Leijer not ready yet, Drum without form] and even though we had no winger in really good form, it was the only way to hope to get past through their defence - and we managed to do so. This tactic is still far from perfect, especially when we lose some defenders like it was yesterday [for Scott it was game nr.3, his debut was 2 weeks ago...but we did it...I also hoped that most situations from Osterreich will come from long distance [hence the low defence when they had the ball] because Papaluca is an awesome keeper and got back in form once again, just for this game....most of their situations were long shots + headers with our defenders closely guarding their strikers, so it has some impact....

the best part is that the winning goal came after Bowyer took the ball from their defender and made a cross...which was what killed us in most games against better teams...what better time for a revenge?

I still can't believe it happened...:D

Ok, the game against won't be easy at all from what I see.

Barnes, Dodd, Puca out because of injuries...

Huxley still without form, Drum is 'peaking' down...we're left with Leijer I'm afraid.

Erdogan, Griffiths, Fihaki still have form issues...

Hunter, Kohler, Morton, Mrdja, Neill, Poutakidis - same story....

we can make a pretty good team of out injured and out-of-form players...ehh :p
2012-05-07 11:14:52
sharpley and durante are in form :P
2012-05-07 11:38:59
One of them will be on the bench I guess :p or maybe Drum...all depends on the thursday update
2012-05-07 20:45:12
borkos, i think your players must have used this against turkey :P
2012-05-08 05:27:23
It worked about as well as that!
2012-05-08 10:14:04
Great stuff borkos. Now let's finish the job. :)
2012-05-08 11:29:50
-----------------Barnes--------------/Huxley
Erdogan---------------------Griffiths/Fihaki
-----------Puca---Stathakis----------/Libesson
Morton-Kohler-Hunter-Mrdja-Neill-/Poutakidis

Well...a pretty solid XI from injured/out of form players....:p

I'm not sure I'd be saying Formidable is out of form given its 11/18 skill wise. Even Very Good is borderline.
Out of form I'd consider to be adequate or under, normal up to outstanding/incred and in good form, brilliant and above.

No matter what the form of our team, there shouldn't be any reason to lose to NZ this weekend
2012-05-08 12:42:45
Of course, the 'out of form' was a bit exaggerated to fit the XI..;)

Still, good is only 7/18 which is too low for my liking. All depends on a player as well, I prefered to use Stathakis in formidable[?] instead of Bowyer in magical last week.
