Subject: S14 - The Australia Cup

2008-10-02 14:26:23
We've seen Naph going down in the State Cup but I guess the Cup is one of his objective... Stamford is one of the top D3 teams... it'll depend a lot on the line-up I guess.
There's some interesting D2-D3 match-ups where we could see the scalps this week. ALeaguers are safe for another round...

At least we can speculate and keep this comp a bit interesting :)

Now that I am training Mids rather than pace I'll have a substantially better cup lineup.

The ability to start my A-Team keeper, defender and forwards without losing training has to help :)

yeah benefits of training striking too ;). Expecting to go reasonably well in the cup this season.

that's good boys...
now you've both clearly stated your intentions we can take the mickey if you get out :)

Yeah I'm training pace so wouldn't be surprised if I went down this week. I have to look at my squad and decide whether to risk losing in the league against winning in the cup - haven't decided what to do yet.

I've already had that done, past 5 seasons I've been knocked out in the 5th round, the past 4 of which was the first time I'd conceded in the cup for that season ;).

I'm a little worried about staying in the cup this season. Tomorrow I will be going into a match against a team with a decent tactic, that although is now in div 3, gave teams a hard time in the past.

I will be going into the match only playing 10 players, without reserves, and the players that will be playing are mainly reserves. I just hope for the best

yeah right... I remember when you said that to me last season... 0-6 :)

On the other hand I got given an established D2 team which I'm quite looking forward to play regardless of the final score, it gives me an opportunity to pop in tactic skill :)

I still need some defenders...

Job done, another week survived by the trainees. :)

Frogmeisters weren't so lucky... nor were Melbourne Magpies and Krayzee Coconuts.

Got through 7-0. Fairly happy with that. More pleased with the zero injuries, although yet another yellow to 'Mr Krards' is a downer.

10 goal bag for Marco Croxall (from 17 attempts). If that doesn't find him some form I don't know what else to try.

8-0 win in a friendly. My team is on fire :)

Just have to laugh at the poorness of my defence tonight. Back 3 were getting tackled by their strikers... i mean they arent that low in defence... but seriously... tackled from behind, left, right, in front... shows that those boys arent up to standard. The first yellow card was ridiculous! Laurie didnt even move when the ball came towards him, and then seemed to line their player up and hack him down :S

Really a game I should have won... but when you are playing a brilliant defender/verygood striker being King up front... doesnt really help when they are also getting tackled......

Training is coming first however and need to get those kids up in defence so they can make a charge on an A-League run =)

yeah I can say a similar thing about my defensive line in cup matches. Only scraped through with the win today wining 5:3 in ET. Your loss means I am now one of the top 4 seeded teams in the cup, so makes my life just that little bit easier towards the end of the Cup if I make it that far.
