Saturdays match is u20+3 u21 to avoid cards on most of the players for the qualification match, this means there will be a lot of debutants. There isnt much u21 defs, so the 2 center defs and and a mid is the u21 players. In att especially and mids too it was easy to find u21 players, and the squad is really strong compared to nation size, even i complained about lack of striking, but we are still higher ranked then squad strength, so lets hope my tactical performances is right on mark.

Spoiler alert, i hope for tactic input as i cant see much i could have done different

So we lost 2-4, but i blaim our keeper mostly and partly our strikers, we had both possesion and play in half besides two shots more even they had slightly higher mark. But they scored on 4 of 6 shots so i really hope Dan Blake gets GK training only till divine as his pace doesnt do much good if he cant save the ball. Also our strikers missed some really good chances and as said, the struggling of striking skill can be part of the reason, and shooting grade was only adequate. But enough of pessisism and blaming, i think the match showed some good things too, our strikers outran their defs several times so some of their missed chances and the goals was actually only created cause they were so fast, our 3 man midfield controlled the match a lot, but our winger was mostly invisible.

What are your thoughts?

Not sure why Ishida is a striker, but ok...
2025-03-22 11:12:42
Mostly cause it was u20 match +3 21 yo. He is very versatile for now and ranks as 1st u20 def and 2nd u20 att, but if I played him as def i had to play a 21 yo in att as the possible u20 replacements Are far worse (3rd and 4th choice), and if I had to take a 21 yo away from def we would only have 1 def with above excellent defender. So thats the reason. Whatever position you choose to choose to specialize in will determine his future position.

This is the fun of u21s, having to get the balance right even if players arent up to the skill level you would like or they are playing out of position.
It's like a forever changing jigsaw puzzle that gets clearer as the players age.
Even the tactics need to change based on the players at your disposal and the players at the other teams disposal (which was seen throughout the evolution of sokker too, as players became better and 'more maxed' the tactics required to suceed were different to the best tactics at a lower level).

Main thing is it was only a friendly and wasn't our 1st team. It's also your first game with this group of players so don't be too hard on yourself.

One thing to remember with youths, given the training preference for pace over other skills in the entrie sokker community, there will be a lot of speedy players out there (both ours and the opposition) without super high primaries and this will affect the kinds of tactics that will succeed too.
Whilst not having primaries can be frustrating, you also can't win without the ball if the opposition constantly get to the ball first due to high speed.

As far as Blake goes, thankfully I'm in the know of his skills and provided he is in form, his GK is well above the stiker level he will come up against so whilst I too would ask his trainer to increase his keeping level, he actually already has a big advantage over the strikers he will come up against, and his pace will help to cut off loose balls going through the defensive line should you play a tactic that has space between the keeper and defenders. Looking back through old data and if Blake gets just 3 pops in the next two seasons, he will actually be our best keeper in u21s since Munn 6 seasons ago (who was second only to Borg, 9 seasons before him). So you definitely have a fantastic starting point in the GK position. He may however have some issues catching both Munn and Bracken given the difference in passing level though.

You got this, keep your head up. 1 game doesn't make a season

None of this is specific to your game or tactics, just general musings.

------------Spoiler alert‐----------------

We played 0-0. I consider it a good result considering they are 1st seeded, but a bad result if you look at the match. We had ball possesion, play in half and shots, and while 3 of our shots was 1v1 from close range and a really dangerous header the goalie sent lose. We controlled the match in general i would say, and most their chances besides one single dangerous was weak chances. But it did Come rather cheap, as the opponent coach played a very Strange tactic, and dont seem so experienced.

We will definitely take a draw.
With 3rd seed being quite low in the seeding, and as you say, a bit of a weird, maybe inexperience from the 1st seed, this is all we need to qualify for the next stage.

Shame Pilic got injured but thankfully only an SI

The result is good. Of course,it could have been a bit more :) I think you can for the world championship as the first in the group.
2025-03-29 15:13:54
First in the group is definitely very achievable with this group

Elsewhere Ukrainia played with similar average value and close rating to ours, but Even they won, it wasnt convincing. But I think if they improve on tactical performance that they can be in the run for qual aswell

Tomorrow (10h8min from now) we play Thailand, the tactic is set, there will be a debutant in form of Jackson Upton [39405257] who progressed well recent weeks (just needs pace now), else its familiar faces

Tactic talk will be after the match

00.10 sk time edit: I just realized how weak tomorrows opponent really is, so im giving debut to Neil Johnston, Jose Snowball and more of the u20 players are playing in general in the match. To start shaping next seasons squad, this should we be able to against Thailand and S.Africa, maybe even to some extend against India aswell, if we are good ahead in points (especially for the second match we can consider it if we got 4 or 6 points against Ukraine)

00.18 sk time edit: 4 u20 starter, 4 coming on from bench.

There is an important notice in, tadaaa... important notice thread.... :)

I hope people dont think i try control their training too much, see it as suggestions on what would be best for u21 team, but all respect to owners own plans.

Love the feedback mate.
I would caution going weaker against India, they have some good trainers and have normally put up a fight in seasons gone (ie we win 1-0, 2-0 etc.)

It's definitely yard with u21 players to know just how much input to give.
I figure for the absolute best of an age group, focus on long term training that is best for their senior career, even if it hurts u21. However there will be a good half the team that will never be in senior contention, so those ones are better for optimising for the u21s.

It can be hard to know where players fall, so I've always been conservative thinking towards the senior team (and still had good success) but there have definitely been some players that could have been optimised for u21 who I didn't.

Good luck mate, you got this
