Subject: National Team U21

It's always an "if". There's never anything set in concrete in this game even when you win ;).

Agree that relying on beating sides isn't exactly as convenient but we're not done yet, Sverige haven't won a game yet and we've beaten Hong Kong a few times recently.

The U21's got back on track with a good win last week. The table for the qualifiers currently stands:

Team Matches Wins Draws Losses Goals Points
1. France U21 4 3 0 1 13-3 9
2. Australia U21 4 2 2 0 7-3 8
3. Panamá U21 4 2 1 1 6-5 7
4. Hong Kong U21 4 2 0 2 5-10 6
5. Sverige U21 4 1 0 3 8-7 3
6. Andorra U21 4 0 1 3 1-12 1

We have a massive game against Sverige this Friday. A win would go a long way to qualifying our team. The key is our stingy defence. Our back 7 are all very, very good U21 players.

Australia U21 2 - 1 Sweden U21

Massive win for us. It sets us up really nicely for quali.

3 games to go and looking good! If we win next week against Andorra :D and Panama lose against Sverige we will qualify 2 weeks early which would be a fantastic effort. It will be a real shame to lose the services of this group of players. There are some real talents.

I'll correct you somewhat. If we win against Andorra and Panama do not win against Sverige we will qualify 2 weeks early. ;).

bought him a couple of weeks ago from krayzee :)

Cometer: whatever ;)

Borkos: With our chronic lack of strikers, just training him in pace will get him an U21 jersey in 2 or 3 seasons :(

Let's agree on one thing. A win against Andorra this week makes it almost impossible to fail to qualify ;).

Agreed!

Congratulations to the Australian community. We have qualified for the 2nd time running for the U21 World Cup. We ended up doing it easily with 2 weeks to spare. There were some hiccups along the way, but we had fantastic results against much bigger communities in France and Sweden.

Thanks should go to the brains trust who helped out with spotting suspensions and injuries when I got lazy and helped out with critique of tactics.

But the real heroes are the fantastic trainers in our little community. There are a lot of passionate trainers around here who really care about the U21's and who love having their players play for Australia. They don't even mind the odd injury.

It will be very sad to see this team disband. It is too bad they don't get to go the world cup.

Also can a mod tag this as [U21]

Such is the way with U21. You develop the squad, then before you know it they're gone.

You've done a very good job, qualifying us yet again. Great stuff!
Now to finish off with a couple of wins for the outgoing guns.

Congratulations to the Australian community. We have qualified for the 2nd time running for the U21 World Cup.

Believe it's the 3rd consecutive time now for a 100% qualification rate. Not that it matters anyway because it doesn't change the fact you've done a great job at getting us there. I thought you probably went a little easy on Andorra by not really changing tactic and as a result our strikers were often missing in action due to being marked by 2dm's and 2 central backs but we were still good enough to take a couple of chances.

Overall though it's been a good season for our U21's and it will be interesting to see how we go against stronger teams next season.
