Subject: Australia Cup

They’re not really afraid. This stuff goes back years with both of them :p.

It’s also a bit of a continuation of what’s been happening in our league forum.

None of us want the favourite tag because on a good day any of us can beat the rest.

I’d agree I have a good chance (and the best chance I’ve had since coming back) but by every metric possible except for current league position, I’m not favourite.

Agbell has the best side on paper. Achmid probably the best at tactics and historically the cup/league has been split by them since I’ve been back. I am closing in on that which is why this discussion has come up because it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Let’s see, it’s probably a injustice to exclude CR and Chile from that discussion as they’re both solid sides in their own right.

Ha yeah this is definitely banter spilling over from the league forum.

It's probably a bit rough to call someone who hasn't won't the cup or league a favourite really. Possibly fair for the league given results, but a bit rough in a knock out format where previous results don't impact future results.

Should cometer and I make it through to the next round, I will certainly be hoping to draw the 'other' team, whomever that is

I mean Chile is on par with me ratings wise, but I guess it always does come down to certain teams you fare better against than others based on team compositions and tactics.

Ideally I want one of you or agbell to lose this week so I don’t have to go through both of you if I should progress this week :p

Now just for the fun of it can’t even claim the league position makes me favourite as I’m now 4th :p

Boo

Guess that makes me the favourite after all. 3 teams on 13pt... lucky for some.

Congrats on progressing to the semis Oscar. Too good on the day. Good luck next week.

Shock defeat there. And it's a bit scary, Cool Runnings just get stronger they longer they stay in the cup as their injured players return.

Other results pretty much went as expected.

Ratings of the last 4 (based purely on this round in the cup)

73.1 Chelsea
68.7 Achmids
66.3 Chile
62.7 Cool Runnings

Based on that, you'd think CR have a mountain to climb, but Parkinson returning is a scary prospect, and the possibility of Turner (although at his age, I am dubious he will be fit in time). Should they get through the semi-final, then Brain in goal will be a massive boost

Looking through other teams,
Chile appears to be at full strength although has a few players flirting with yellow cards
Chelsea in the same boat as Chile
Achmids will have their #1 striker returning but still missing their #1 MID until the final. Although the two yellow card issue will have to be considered.

I hope we don't have a situation where the semis are impacted by red cards, but that's the game.

Shock defeat to everyone but myself. The game was won and lost on defense and my defense is not at the same standard as CR.

It’s not like that’s the first time CR has taken the sword to me either so I wasn’t overly surprised.

Also I suspect they’ve put in some work into that tactic as they more or less had me covered on every situation. They pretty much man marked renaud which is something I’ve said in other discussions is the easiest way to shut my attack down.

Meanwhile I didn’t make any changes tactically.

It’s kind of a self fulfilling result. The one who put more effort in won and won in the right way. Nothing shocking about that.

It was earnt and well deserved.

Guess this makes you more of a favourite in the league...don't have to focus on the cup :D

Definitely unexpected. My fans were expecting a tough and even contest. I was more pessimistic, knowing who was missing. Turns out, they were right.

Comets are always a formidable challenge and I hadn't scored a goal against them in the last 5 months. I was happily surprised to score at all.

For the SF, Parkinson should be back, which will be a boost. Turner and Brain will be out. I can't see an incredible GK keeping Achmid or Chelsea strikers out.

The only disappointment was that I forgot to bump the ticket prices. :(
2025-04-11 14:18:05
Haha, if you say so :p.

Gosh, 32-2 shot count for a 3-1 win. Didn’t have the shooting boots on.

Draw is out

Chelsea vs Cool Runnings
Achmids vs Chile

Should be a good set of semis. Can't expect any game will be an easy one

If CR or Chile make it through, we could have a new champion amongst us

I’m sticking with what I said last week :p. Yet another AS v Chelsea final
