Martinoo to All
Statement of candidacy for the Australia national team

Coaching profile
I am an ambitious coach with a large amount of free time, which I am fully willing to dedicate to national team duties. My approach is based on in-depth tactical analysis, careful player selection, and long-term team building aligned with the real potential of the squad.

Coaching experience
I have coached Malaysia U21 for 10 seasons and the Malaysia senior national team for 3 seasons. In the most recent season, I worked as head coach of Kenya U21.
Working with weaker national teams has given me valuable experience in maximizing limited resources, developing players patiently, and adapting tactics to the strengths of available squads.

Motivation
After gathering this experience, I believe the time has come to step to a higher level and take on a more demanding challenge. The Australian national team represents a project with solid foundations, a strong football culture, and significant untapped potential.

Commitment
I am ready to commit myself fully to this role and work consistently to build a competitive, disciplined team that reflects the fighting spirit and determination traditionally associated with Australian football

Thanks for being a candidate.

What do you think are the most important things to focus on for the Australian NT and how would you go about achieving these?

Be aware that the Aussies who watch (when they have time) can be very blunt about things. They are not having a go at you, rather just giving feedback, however it can be easy to think they are being over critical due to the lack of sugar coating. This goes whether you are winning or losing, and in the end, people putting time and effort into the team is the most important thing for a coach.

I see several key areas to focus on for the Australian NT.

Looking realistically, Australia last played in the World Cup in Season 13, which was a long time ago. I cannot promise qualification for the World Cup, as that is not a realistic goal. The realistic target is to do everything possible to maximize our chances of winning as many official matches as possible. To achieve this, I will carefully analyze every opponent. I know how to win against teams of a similar level because I study their play. Many opponents rely on one or two main tactics. If I know our team has the potential, and with the amount of free time I have, I will dedicate a lot of time to tactics. Even small adjustments, like throw-in positioning or defensive line setup, can make a big difference.

Against stronger opponents, I am willing to take more risks. This may result in a 1:0 win for us or a 0:5 loss, but I believe this approach increases the chance of a positive surprise. With some luck and favorable draws, a second place in the group and World Cup qualification is possible.

Since the next season is a qualifying season, I plan to play the strongest possible squad in official matches. There is no place for experiments in official games. In lower-stakes matches, however, I will accommodate requests from users regarding their participation in the national team.

There is also the question of future planning and player care, especially for players 21+. I plan to maintain regular contact with the owners of the best players and those with the highest potential, ensuring they are trained properly and given guidance. I also want to work closely with the U21 coach, because my plans are not just for one season—I want to build a reputation here and stay long-term.

Are you you willing to take on potential NT players for training if required or in best interests of the NT setup (where it might be feasible).
Oz community has some experienced non-Oz managers who are doing a great job training up NT players - I’m sure that will come to light when familiarising yourself with the NT forums.

Yes, I have a very strong staff at the club, but only for training midfielders and defenders. My plans include developing young Australians – but if there's a need to train players over 21 and I have the opportunity, I'll do it. Unless I'm sure a coach wants to buy him and won't waste him.

Hi Martinoo, thanks for choosing Aus NT. You'll find a handful of managers committed to training the stars of the future. The training group is not limited to Aus managers, either. All will have an interest in setting the Aus NT perform at its best.

It's a good challenge with enough quality to cause the stronger teams some trouble. Let's get on an upward course.

I hope you are prepared to manage the whole talent pool to not only focus on the now but also the key players for the future.

Australia has history with Uruguay in World Cup Qualifying.

Those play-offs must have been very exciting :) My country has been playing in the play-offs a lot in recent years, currently the battle with Albania and then Ukraine/Sweden and the World Cup :)

P.S. Australia is a beautiful country, although I've never been there, I would love to move to your country :)
