Subject: Youth players
Looks better than a vg to me. Looks like an excellent. That being said nice pull, looks promising as a defender. One to ensure gets trained properly and if they have any talent I’d be surprised if you didn’t get some money for your effort there.
Nothing special, but you never forget your first (youth pull)

If you change your mind about Ponting, keen on taking him on. Asked for the price of your previous' week youth but I think you missed it. Would appreciate the price on both these guys.
Brilliant, talent not recorded.

Wow some nice pulls this week. Ponting the standout but Simunic not too far behind and even Piper isn't terrible.

I'm at the stage where my youth squad is always at or around maximum now so I need to be harsher with my rejections.
My youth squad has always been a bit too old/low quality, but it hasn't really been an issue until now and every youth is a dice roll and a bit of fun so have kept people regardless.
Does the following sound reasonable in terms of minimum aims (at the time of contracting - not currently) to keep in the youth squad:
16: any skill level
17: adequate
18: Very Good
19: Formidable
20+: don't bother
Appreciate that these would shift depending on talent but as a basis to work from is it about right do people think?

Yes, looks reasonable. I typically use talent 3 as a forecast until they've been in for about 8 weeks. Anyone with no improvement after 8 weeks gets booted.
I also split early season and late season.
16.0: any skill level
16.5: weak
17.0: adequate
17.5: good
18.0: solid
18.5: very good
19.0: excellent
19.5: formidable
20.0: incredible
20.5: magical

Essentially what I do when I’ve hit th e max juniors I want in the squad is sack the weakest x where removing x gives me 6 places for the next Saturday. I do this after Thursday’s training update too. That could be based on age/level/talent. It does mean rubbish sometimes gets through to contracting but it also means you only get rid of what you need to.
I think if you’re looking at level only you’re probably a bit low on cutoffs for 18+. I’d probably have it formidable for 18 and outstanding-incredible 19 but it totally depends on talent and also how far in the season you pull the player. An 18yo vg at the beginning of the season is better than an 18yo at the end of the season.
Hence why I think level alone isn’t sufficient, you need to be aware of talent and also when in the season they’re being pulled as well.

I would agree with cometer, but I am in a more enviable financial position to do so. I keep the best 24/25 prior to youths coming in to my school each week, because every now and then, someone I would have booted, turns out to be either great distribution or sells for a nice amount.
So at time of pulling
16yo - keep all
17yo - keep most. If they are 5 weeks or so (ie won't know talent), then depending on space I may keep if they are weak or above, because sometimes the coaches predictions are off by a few levels, otherwise I like them to be adequate+
18yo - good/Solid
19yo - Exc/Form
20yo - Incred+
Using sokker asistente, it also tracks talent. You probably want them in the school 8 or so weeks before really trusting it but if their talent is 5+ and they are only just hovering the above levels, they will probably also get the sack.
I'm not strick with the levels, as I've played long enough to get a feel, but trying to guess, its about what I have up there.
And as oscar says, there is definitely more leeway to those coming in at the start of the season compared to those end of season pulls

Yeah I think I favour making the assessment on the basis of age and guessed level at contracting rather than on pull. As talent becomes known you can tweak the projected end level to choose between candidates for the chop.
17 year olds pulled with 30+ weeks right now are close to the top of my chopping board - no matter how good their rating gets they'll be 20 so the chances of stars aligning on the mix of skills for them to be worth training then are slim - plus they'll have taken a slot in my youth squad for 3 seasons - just not worth it I don't think.
I see the point of halving the seasons and the fact that oscar has gone a smidge below and cometer gone above my ratings probably means it's not too bad a starting point :)
Thanks for the responses
