Probably comes from Public school when students were taken out for the day, normally to go meandering about in a field or up a mountain, as opposed to being stuck in the classroom learning lines of latin and other such useless tosh.

I always used to prefer the "field" days to normal days so .....

He's having a field day means he's having a good day....

meh, best I can come up with without looking it up.

You'll have to ask Dandy about Craig ;)

Gutted for Deezi, O'Neill was only brought in at the last minute and to take a 26 day injury in the first minute was harsh...sorry Deezi.

Thought Lappin and Wilson were awesome, i asked them to do a lot of work and they never let me down.

Oh and finally

TOP OF THE LEAGUE :)

And there's the third. Lovely job, USA losing that man made all the difference imo.

Your internet got a delay or something?
2008-03-08 13:29:10
Congrats reekie, off to a good start!

a few anxious moments though eh

No delay, was doing something else when they kicked off and joined the stream late.

'Field Day' explanations sounds good to me.

USA losing that man made all the difference imo.

It was the best man for us to have sent off too with us playing our two strikers on that side, it certainly gave us a lot more possession and in turn, chances.
2008-03-08 13:31:18
Have to wonder how that would have gone without the sending off.

Got a lot to think about, got to beat both Italy and Estonia to qualify now.

Nice one reekie.

I actually thought MacFarlane was going to get sent off just before the yank (appin was it?) got his 2 yellows....

But yeah, lucky for us. :)

Got to wonder about the ME a little too. You see more and more teams playing without a midfield these days. A couple of deep defensive mids and a far fwd off-mid with great holes in the 'real' middle. Try and play the beautiful game and the ball goes over the top of mids heads half the time with long passes from front to back.

Also on the ME at 1-1 Patterson (looks like a monster striker to me) was straight through and only had to run in on goal but he suddenly stopped and passed backwards, i noticed Leiper done similar , (although he wasn't clear) slightly earlier

Nice victory :)

seems to be a good day for me :p
Belgium won, Cymru won, Scotland won (ok, Indonesia lost, but that isnt wc, otherwise they would have won as well :p)

btw, I'll think about another Haiku to celebrate this one :p

Just watched the game... awesome result. Thought it was going to be one of those games at 0-1 and nothing going in.

Sending off didnt help the USA much but I think we were getting the better of the game beforehand anyway. Of course whether we'd have won the game without the sending off who knows.

Horrible injury to deezi's guy though. The risk/reward of having a NT player seems unbalanced to me at the moment... but thats for another topic.
