Just pulled this solid "Goalkeeper
Phil Lachie, age: 18
club: YoYo, country: Scotland
value: 17 850 £, wage: 390 £
very good form, tragic tactical discipline
height: 187 cm
weak stamina tragic keeper
average pace good defender
hopeless technique unsatisfactory playmaker
unsatisfactory passing tragic striker
So I'm guessing that the coach guesses the players position aswell as their talent.

Norbert Gołysz, age: 19
club: The Evil`s, country: Polska
value: 479 000 zł, wage: 6 100 zł
very good form, tragic tactical discipline
height: 164 cm
poor stamina poor keeper
solid pace very good defender
solid technique weak playmaker
average passing adequate striker
Think I'll have to re-think my plans with my brilliant gk youth now.

Andy Quirie 17 incredible outfield 4
Lyle Fisher 19 solid outfield 5
Christian MacWilliam 17 adequate outfield 8
Euan Gethins 19 formidable outfield 8
Chris Tawesson 19 very good outfield 9
Dylan Hill 17 good outfield 9
Ronnie Binnie 18 formidable outfield 11
Bart McVeigh 18 adequate outfield 13
Colin Moncreiffe 17 very good outfield 13
Owen Rusk 16 good outfield 13
Kerr Sweeney 16 adequate outfield 17
Dexter Gibson 16 adequate outfield 19
Boyd Austin 16 solid outfield 19
Ernie MacVurie 17 solid outfield 19
Stew MacVicar 16 solid outfield 19
Gordon Fletcher 16 solid outfield 20
Jake Morgan 18 solid outfield 21
Cameron MacLeverty 16 average outfield 22
Joseph Payne 18 solid outfield 26
Stewart McEvely 16 poor outfield 29
Neil Aitcheson 16 unsatisfactory outfield 30
Gregor Matheson 16 unsatisfactory outfield 33
Quirie is interesting, straight 4 week pops to formidable then 3 weeks to outstanding. The following week the graph shows a drop to formidable then all the way down to tragic. His skill level shows Incredible.
Dont know who has been drinking more, me or the youth coach! :)

My player was at outstanding yesterday.
Today, as he's available to be promoted to the first team, he dropped to excellent.
Are we looking at a system where we don't know the actual skill of the player until the last minute?

Nope. this up and down mess with junior skills is just for the time being.
what's happened is that as the new system has just kicked in, the youth coaches assessment of your youths' was very rough. The longer your youth stays and plays in the juniors the better the estimate will be (also having a better youth coach will give you a better estimate).
For your current juniors, it is actually best if you use the skill and talent of your trainees under the old system to work out what they will end up as.
Why i say this, is that in actual fact there has been no change to your youths' skills under the new system.
All thats happened is that an extra element of coach judgement is blurring the skills being reported for your youths.
So, say you had a youth that in the old youth system popped every 5 weeks and was expected to come out as an outstanding +0 pull in 2 weeks time.
Under the new system, that youth will still come out as an outstanding +0 pull, no matter what your coach guesses his skill is.
His actual skills have not changed.
