Subject: Main coach

I've got a bit of a dilemma going on with my coaches at the moment. For the past few seasons I've switched main coach every now and again to suit whatever I've been training. Last season, I think it was, I recruited this guy:

Fergus McHewitt, age: 42

wage: 21 000 £
club: Lenzie, country: Scotland
brilliant coach
Training effectiveness:
magical of stamina formidable of keeper
unearthly of pace unearthly of defender
unearthly of technique unearthly of playmaker
magical of passing adequate of striker

He's great in all areas that I train (aswell as defender) with the exception of being magical passing...

This concerns me as I want to make the most of the trainees I have and train them as well as is possible. So with magical passing that's gonna slightly hinder the training of arguably the most important skill for a midfielder (by how much is the important question..). I looked at how much I would have to spend to buy a coach like my present one only with unearthly passing and found that it was £1M+. So it's a question of whether it's worth forking out a ridiculous amount of money for this one level of passing, or to stay with the coach I have and perhaps my trainees don't develop as well as they could. What do you guys think?

if you intend to train midfielders then getting a coach with unearthly passing skill is a must. i think you will get a decent coach for a lot less than £1. for example here is my head coach at the moment.....

Rudolf Mochnacz, age: 71

wage: 23 625 £
club:
East Fife
Matches
Players
Transfers
History
, country: Polska
magical coach
Training effectiveness:
unearthly of stamina very good of keeper
magical of pace unearthly of defender
unearthly of technique unearthly of playmaker
unearthly of passing unearthly of striker

he cost me £365,000

i think if you shop around you can afford a decent coach with the skills you are looking for.

I wouldnt change a coach because he only has magical on a skill. My coach has only magical PM and I use him for PM training and talents still look great :) Of course, were talking about allround coaches like Giovanni's one.

but if he wants to train passing he will have to change him because i wouldnt train a skill that my coach wasnt unearthly in.

How much does magical compare to unearthly though? May be good to look at it with respect to general trainings. I recall Suttie posting ages ago that 8 weeks of general training of tech, say, with an unearthly level of tech for a coach is roughly equal to a weeks training under technique. Is this correct? If so, does anyone know what would be the corresponding number of weeks gen training it would take for a coach with mag tech to achieve a weeks training?

(If that makes any sense lol)

its impossible to say. Is a coach' skill efficiency linear, exponential, square rooted, ...
And to compare, you'd have to find 2 exact same talented players with the same amount of subskill (so not one that has .08 and one that has .01 after their general pop).
I have this guy here who popped with 1 training and 4 generals to solid playmaking (http://www.uploader.be/output/1291915664.jpg), which makes me believe the difference between a coach with magical pm and unearthly pm is pretty small. Or surely not worth spending over 300k on.
Maybe another interesting thing which applies for your coach is the fact that there is a pretty large group of managers who believe that passing trains faster than the other non-pace/stamina skills. Which would make the benefits of unearthly passing over magical even smaller. Mind that this theory is not official, but its not noob managers who believe it.

You would have to factor in assistant coaches too but with 3 brilliant+ ones then there probably wouldn't be much difference. Probably only a level more after quite a few seasons.

For general training purposes I wouldn't bother changing coaches from the one that you listed. I'd only think about it if training a skill with a magical level instead of unearthly.

I think that I just said the same as you but in less words :)
2011-01-12 10:17:50
blaaah :)
2011-01-12 14:32:34
Cheers guys, that clears it up somewhat. Will stay with the coach I have already :)
2011-01-12 15:26:08
Haven't any of your assistants got passing?
2011-01-12 16:20:57
Aye, I checked this. Two of them have unearthly passing, both are brilliant coaches. Again, it's a question of how much general training will I lose from these guys having not great secondaries in places.

My main coach is unearthly in all areas that I care about (apart from mag passing) so he'll allow lots more general training in the other areas whereas one of my assistants has outstanding technique. So if I decide I want to train passing for 10 weeks, the general training for technique could be reasonable amount less than what I would have with my current main coach. From what ppl have said, the magical passing won't make that much difference when training passing. I suppose one could say "who cares about ten weeks of general training at a few levels lower than normal?" but it's about what choice will give me the most all-round training (without spending potentially a pile of money on buying a new coach). May well be the same negligible amount.

well use your une passing coach as your head coach when your training passing, and swap back when training elsewhere it will offer you best results IMHO
2011-01-12 19:54:06
that's what a would do.
