I think it's a bad move by David Murray - sends out all the wrong signals.

Ferguson comes out of it looking like he's the most important man at Ibrox, and any new manager will certainly be wary. Let's face it, Ferguson will feel that he's won the battle, and this cannot be good for Rangers.

I remember Ferguson last season dictating substitutions to McLeish from the pitch (in one memorable occasion, he turned and shouted to his manager to "Get him tae f*ck, man" while pointing at Namouchi.

His attitude stinks, to be frank.

I feel sorry for Le Guen (a bit). His position was deemed untenable as soon as Murray questioned his actions, and his former captain's behaviour was likely the final straw. But if he's not allowed to manage as he wants, then what's the point of him being there - he's a proud man, and it looks like he didn't stand for anyone telling him how to do his job. And rightly so.

However, it does seem that he seriously misjudged both the quality of the SPL, and the quality of the players he brought in.

Also, the fans will now feel even more strongly that they are the most important part of the club, which is patently untrue. This is why there is such an outcry for a good 'Rangers man' to be appointed the next manager. I feel this would be a knee-jerk reaction, and the appointment of McCoist would possibly be the worst option imaginable at this point in time.

Of the candidates that spring to mind immediately, I would prefer someone along the lines of Calderwood/Nicholl (who ironically have strong Rangers links LOL) or someone like George Graham, or even perhaps wee Billy Davies. Each of these candidates have some bad points too, though.

Whoever comes in will have to be allowed to manage the team the way they see fit, without the intense pressure from the fans and now the more senior players.

A strong character is required, and some degree of financial backing from the chairman.

Hands off Calderwood/Nicholl!
2007-01-05 11:12:59
LOL! You wouldn't have said that last season though, eh?
2007-01-05 11:34:42
I would actually.

Think they are quite good at getting the best out of their players.

Looks like Walter will be the new Gers boss.

walter and sooper ally !

for me this is the right appointment at a time when the gers need it most.

walter will get the best out of the players and with new arrivals such as webster and hopefully brown , im thinking that by the start of next season the gers will be one helluva strong team !

Hehe, that sounds like a "This time next year, Rodders, we'll be millionaires...!" type statement to me.

Our problems won't be solved by adding a couple of players and a new manager...we thought that when Le Guen was announced and look what happened.

The main reason for our position in the league is basically the quality of the players at the club.

They're just not good enough.

totally agree mate . BUT...............

big walt and ally aint no mugs and im 100% confident in the ability they have ,

i honestly believe that this could be the kick up the arse we so desperately need and this is the beginning of a great new era.

Andy webster on his way as we speak and if we get brown and thomson next week as planned we have got one helluva backbone to the squad,

the squad is underperforming just now and id say that everyone will see a MASSIVE change in performances in a very short time

well i hope ! lol

Well, I hope you're right, but then again, who says Webster is any good? And even if the two Hibs lads sign up, who says they'll adapt to playing for a big club quickly?

I accept your reasons for your elevated hopes, but I would warn against becoming over-confident or even bullish about it. I fear you're just setting yourself up for a big fall...
